I still don't get this. Is there any reason to remove them? They're only hats, but I just don't understand the logic behind it.
Testing the economy by artificial inflation. Still stupid as hell.
I still don't get this. Is there any reason to remove them? They're only hats, but I just don't understand the logic behind it.
The proof that shortages yield the same results wether they are artificial or real.
Clever but unneccesary
Glad I already got that Demo Fro.
I can't imagine what this will do to the prices of the unusual variants of those hats.
I really don't see why everyone is mad at them, they're only making a few hats go undroppable and uncraftable now, you still got another whopping 200 or so hats to play around with. So they're having a little experiment, they'll probably end up bringing them back eventually, but it's mostly something that economist dude they hired wanted to try out.

This choice was made purely out of self interest. Not even a token attempt of making it seem like anyone anywhere considers this a good change for the actual players.
They won't bring them back This game is literally nothing more than a sociology and business experiment at this point
If this is true then my mind is blown and I'll take back what I said about Valve.
This will make in-game chat even more annoying, with the constant random Joe begging for trades.
Watch people jack up the prices even though tens of thousand of each of the hats exist.

Shameless profiteering on Valves part, this make me sad
Testing the economy by artificial inflation. Still stupid as hell.
Isn't this deflation?
I used to have an unusual batters helm . Shit.
Valve really doesnt give 2 fucks about TF2 anymore. Its Valves own twisted test subject for Dota 2 now.
They won't bring them back This game is literally nothing more than a sociology and business experiment at this point
We're having fun with science.
Pretty much. TF2 was Valve's first attempt at F2P, it's flawed in quite a few ways, Dota 2 on the other hand is far better, personally I think it's the perfect F2P model, nothing gameplay related is sold, it's purely cosmetic items.
It works in Dota 2 because cosmetics will never be like TF2 weapons and shit. But I can see Dota 2 becoming a mess of poorly fitted cosmetics and styles down the road.
Isn't this deflation?
Oops, that.
i havent played tf2 since 2009 im gonna be rich when i go look at my 100 items
I used to have several Batter's Helmets until Valve took them away. I could be rich
They won't bring them back This game is literally nothing more than a sociology and business experiment at this point
this is especially proved with pubs. There are virtually no good pubs anymore, Valve could solved this by having team queueing in the matchmaking and people are put in a server with another team (like Dota 2 or Super MNC) but Valve doesn't care about the gameplay of TF2, or whether or not most matches are one sided stomps which make half the server leave.
Isn't this deflation?
I had a course of basic economics but in my language so I probably mess up the the proper terms. Inflation means general increase of prices or decrease of buying power of money. In this case the price of these hats will surely increase to some awful heights so I think we can talk about inflation rather than deflation. And yes, this little experiment will do nothing else than make trading these hats a nightmare.
i dont get why so many people are mad this aint the first time valve discontinued tf2 items
Why are people getting so butthurt? This is literally only to stimulate the TF2 hat economy.

The value of currency is not changed, the value of the items will rise significantly due to there being less. That's deflation of the value of hats. Inflation is the increase of prices when referring to a currency/money. So like in a MMO game, if you give 10 gold coins for everyone's quest each time you make it, but then suddenly give 100 per quest, you get inflation of the currency. Since there is more, prices gradually rise as more currency is in circulation. But imagine if the currency was an item, hats. And you stopped making them or releasing them, their value would go up as there is less around for a population. The price of these hats in TF2 would go up due to deflation of the item.
