Assange now refers to support he has received from human rights groups in the UK and the US. He cites Human Rights Watch calling on the US to stop its investigation of him. Now it’s to questions. He is asked whether he plans to surrender to the authorities. He says he will be leaving the embassy soon.
A summary for anyone who doesn't want to go through the entire live feed: http://www.smh.com.au/world/julian-assange-to-leave-ecuadorian-embassy-soon-20140818-105h8n.html
Prior to the conference there were rumours he was going to surrender to UK police.
He has not elaborated any further on "soon".
I hope he doesn't.
I was expecting him to first try a sneak attempt via diplomatic-bag or some shit when leaving, not a willing surrender. Wonder what his willingness to concede implies for the rape allegations.
I wonder if any betting agencies are giving odds on him being turned over to the US after the Swedes are done with him.

Probably brokered a deal with the UK.
Don't they have some huge insurance file that's to be released upon his detention?
He's got a pretty fucked up life.
He looks really old and sick...
I really don't think its smart surrendering yourself to the British Police. The entire thing is so fishy ever since Sweden couldn't be assed getting detectives into England to interview the guy from the embassy. Even so they could of easily skyped him to ask questions but they always wanted him there on their soil.

Laws are weird things. Probably couldn't do that.
What a filthy criminal scumbag, divulging some of the governments dirty secrets and lies! how could he!
He's so going to guantanamo bay

I could be wrong - and if I am by all means show me (I'm not a dick who'll get ridiculously defensive when proven wrong, promise) - but didn't the prosecutor explain that the second-line of questioning is more a formality needed under Swedish law to get the indictment (beginning of criminal proceedings) as opposed to (in this case) being part of the initial investigative process and they also require his physical presence to issue the indictment and push forward?
Don't take this as an opinion on whether he's guilty/facing US extradition/etc. Just interested on this specific point.

Well you're under house arrest for 2 years.

Basically he just wanted his name in the news again, so he made a statement.

He also sought out people in sensitive positions and coerced them to release classified gov material like troop movements which is why manning is in jail, and he basically runs on the principle that you either have total freedom if information or no freedoms at all

Espianoge is still a crime regardless if its on the internet for people to see or if its for another government
-snip just realised why my post din't make sense-
crazy how all those troop movements were totally revealed and yet no one has been proven to have been killed because of the reveal
Because in the real world, cause and effect don't usually come with big labels to make it obvious for all the world to see. How are you supposed to 'prove' a causal link? At best you can show a correlation, but that doesn't mean there's no connection.
But if you want to go beyond troops movements, there have been deaths caused by these leaks. Government accountability is a cornerstone of democratic society, but public curiosity does not always override safety and security when it comes to sensitive operations. I have a lot more respect for people like Daniel Ellsberg, who was selective in what he released to only reveal government wrongdoing, than people like Manning and Assange who sought to leak any and all information they got access to.

and who has praised Wikileaks, Assange and Manning on multiple occasion...
Well you're under house arrest for 2 years.
This isn't even house arrest, this is room-arrest, and out of all the potential nations, it is the fucking Ecuadorian embassy. I wouldn't be surprised if the entire building wasn't even Ecuadorian and just parts of it purchased.

The problem is that the informants outed in it are more likely to be connected with CIA, who would immediately deny any involvement. So these assets are left in the wind.
Then how about just civilians in Afghanistan?
