Avellone said KOTOR 3 would have featured the character Revan more than KOTOR 2, from which the character was largely absent. "I always liked the idea that Revan, as smart and powerful as your player-character was, was actually even more of a brilliant strategist than became apparent in the first game," Avellone said of Revan's role in the first game. "The entire second game is littered with clues as to 'why didn't Revan destroy the infrastructure here? What was he trying to make sure was still intact? What did he/she see that no one else saw?'" The third game would have players tracking down Revan as a character deemed "The Exile." Allevone said, "it felt like we were pitching and pitching [to LucasArts] and it just wasn't going anywhere, and at some point people just drew a line and said 'it's just not going to happen,' which made us kind of sad, but, OK, if that's the business, that's the business." Obsidian's pitch to Disney in February 2013 for a new Star Wars game was different than KOTOR 3, according to Eurogamer. Obviously, this was before EA obtained the exclusive rights to develop and publish Star Wars games in May 2013.
http://www.joystiq.com/2013/08/01/knights-of-the-old-republic-3-was-in-pre-production-at-obsidian/
TOR is not and never will be an acceptable substitute for KOTOR 3 in my eyes.
Favorite RPGs I've played in forever. RIP in peace :(
Now I'm depressed. Another KOTOR by Obsidian would have been amazing.
This stings almost as much as when it came out how close Battlefront 3 was to being a thing. Fucking Bethesda, fucking over Obsidian with that ridiculous Metacritic royalties shit.
Don't worry guys, EA will save the day and make it! After all they have rights to all Star Wars games now and nobody seems upset about Battlefront 3 being made by them so the game must be perfect!
I wonder if they'll return to it. I hope they do once the Star Wars gaming situation is more stable in general.

They've proven themselves multiple times over and if ANY development studio other than the original devs were capable of doing justice to Battlefront, DICE is high on the list.

KotOR II was one of the few sequels in a game franchise that was superior to the original in my eyes. Shame we'll never see anything that could have possibly been even better.
Wouldn't KoTOR 3 made a [sp]huge overarching story in TOR non-canon, along with the Revan books?[/sp]
Wouldn't KoTOR 3 made a [sp]huge overarching story in TOR non-canon, along with the Revan books?[/sp]
Doesn't necessarily have to involve Revan directly, and you could probably weave around the books and TOR by setting it in the in-between era.
Doesn't necessarily have to involve Revan directly, and you could probably weave around the books and TOR by setting it in the in-between era.
[sp]There isn't much room to weave around, since the book gaps 1 and 2, which ends with Revan being put in a suspension tank.[/sp]
Fallout New Vegas got an 84, and Bethesda demanded an 85 for royalties. They had to cancel a next-gen project named North Carolina, and other things because of this. "Additionally, Kotaku reports that the North Carolina project was to be published by Microsoft, and was intended for the still unannounced Xbox 360 successor console. Our tipster tells us that the North Carolina project was "desperately needed" for the studio's continued survival, which matches reports that Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart "choked up" while addressing his employees about the canned project." So yeah fuck Bethesda.
Wouldn't KoTOR 3 made a [sp]huge overarching story in TOR non-canon, along with the Revan books?[/sp]
Nobody with a brain considers TOR canon anyay

The DICE that is handling the current Battlefront is just the rebranded Medal of Honor studio. Not the Battlefield DICE.
Wrong DICE. The DICE that is handling the current Battlefront is just the rebranded Medal of Honor studio. Not the Battlefield DICE.
No, it's some sort of combination of the Swedish Dice and the Medal of Honor studio, from what I can tell.
Nobody with a brain considers TOR canon anyay
It would be easy to write off if it was just the MMO, but there was a book.
Wrong DICE. The DICE that is handling the current Battlefront is just the rebranded Medal of Honor studio. Not the Battlefield DICE.
No the good DICE is working on Battlefront 3, DICE LA (which was Danger Close before being rebranded) is working on the DLC for it.
My brain.... I swear to god it... it just... I have a migraine and the simmering feeling of rage.
It would be easy to write off if it was just the MMO, but there was a book.
...so? The book was absolute shit. The only reason it exists is to tear apart the KOTOR games and ham fistedly try to give a reason for the mmo to happen. I don't cosider it any more canon then the mmo.

If it was just the MMO, it would have been S rating, making it easy to override.
Oh. Wow. Obsidian had atmosphere down juuust right for Knights of the Old Republic II. It was dark, and it felt like there was just no hope left. It would've been amazing for Obsidian to make a KotOR III. Such a shame.
The only shit I consider canon is KOTOR 1&2. Everything else can fuck right off.
This is the saddest, gaming related news in awhile. I was just playing New Vegas today. But I'm always glad to see Facepunch loves Obsidian as much as I do. They constantly seem to get fucked over and never get as much recognition with the gaming masses as I feel they should. Lately though, they seem to have a lot going for them with Stick of Truth and Project Eternity.

If they were owned by Valve I suspect they'd work much better.
Good thing Obsidian's kickstarter for Project Eternity was a success, it pretty much guaranteed their survival.
Or we can ignore it because it is a poorly writen, retconing, plot hole filled primer for and equally bad mmo.
Don't say it's 100% poorly written. Writing is different in every class story, where as Imperial Agent has the best writing.
Or we can ignore it because it is a poorly writen, retconing, plot hole filled primer for and equally bad mmo.
I doubt you can ignore away canon, even when Lucasfilms says it is with The Holocron Project.
