The two firms have signed a conditional deal for £47.5m in cash and £7.5m in shares. The sale, should it go through, includes 99p Stores' network of 251 shops, which trade as 99p Stores and Family Bargains. Discounters in the UK have been taking market share from supermarkets.[/quote]
Poundland floated last year for £750m when it had 500 stores, they're now buying an additional 250 stores for £55m What a bargain :v:
Ashens just died a little
It's never good for competition to merge, just means they are in a better position to abuse their financial power. Although in this case, they cannot do much due to their figure head being "£1" per item.

So my highstreet will now be: Poundland; Formally 99p store; Poundland; Savers; 99er; PoundWorld; Waitrose. Awesome.
Lets hope the selection isn't so varied when it comes to sweets with the merger, its Haribo one week and strange German sweets the next week in 99p stores.

Then again, they've just taken over from places like Poundstretcher which seemed to occupy every street in the 90's.
This is great news because this means we get more Ashens poundland episodes we get to see a man, over the course of years, slowly deteriorate into psychosis
