That tablet you carry around is so puny. Look at it, fitting comfortably in your hands and sporting not a single built-in handle. Outrageous. Samsung has made the rumored Galaxy View official, and it's very much the opposite of your wussy little tablet. It's big and it has a handle.
...
The Galaxy View runs Android 5.1 with a custom video-centric UI that makes a little more sense on the giant screen. That screen, by the way, is only 1080p. The pixel density isn't going to be great, but this was probably the only way to make the View run long enough on a charge and cost a not exorbitant amount of money. It weighs 2.65kg (almost 6 pounds), so it's a good thing Samsung put a handle in the kickstand. I mean, assuming you want to carry around a tablet this size.
2GB of RAM. What a fucking joke.
My shitty Chinese Windows Tablet has 2GB of ram.
Why's it shipping with 5.1?
Probably because updating their software is hard work.
Because Touchjizz
I can see the appeal tbh. It's like an all in one but it actually has the benefit of being mobile. Sharing the screen on even a 10" tablet isn't the best.

Too right, with that size you would expect a lot more RAM. Is 8 hours of video play even any good battery-wise for a tablet like that? (I have almost no experience with these newfangled phones, as you've no doubt heard by now)

Yeah, even just 8 hours of SoT is really solid.
all that size

and a iddy biddy SD slot that looks like it should have a 2nd one
so it's a laptop without a keybored?
so it's a laptop without a keybored?
It's a laptop without a keyboard, without enough memory (RAM or storage), without a useful OS, without a useful processor (8 cores? on a tablet?), and without an impressive screen.
It's basically a Galaxy Note Pro with less memory, a slower processor, a worse display, a bigger screen, and a worse camera for $150 less. Big whoop.
I bet you could call a really low spec laptop a keyboard tablet and get away with it lmao
You know what would be good for a tablet of this size for the next model? a keyboard attachment! But wait, what if we made it where it could fold over the screen to protect it when you don't use the tablet? What if we increased the specs and memory and hard drive space as well, that would be a kickass tablet.
We could call it a Laptablet because you would sit it on your lap while using the keyboard
I think 2gb is fine. Most people use their devices to browse like facebook and twitter.

My phone has 4gb of RAM. This massive tablet can afford to have a little more than an old phone has.

it looks like its supposed to be a netflix machine
Maybe the tablet is targeted towards single-serving usage? I can see it being used as interactive information displays in museums and such
all that size

looks like there are 2 slots, just one unmarked. you can see a bit of microsd sticking out
i can't believe a display this large is only 1080p lol.
Sweet, another Samsung device that I can use as a coaster after the warranty expires and it decides to brick itself on me. This one I can even fit like six fucking coffee mugs on. Wow.

This has a far more powerful CPU, and what makes you think 8-core = worse performance?
are they big enough to breakdance on top of
nice
now lets wait until another company does a better version
seriously samsung sucks

My $160 Chinese phone has 3GiB, what were they thinking? This phone also has a 4000 mAh battery, how did they only fit 5700 in a tablet that big?
''18 and running android, lmao. Good job making world's largest useless waste of sillicon and glass.
why do they make 18.4 inch AMOLED tablets but not a single 12-15 inch AMOLED laptop
Lately i turned to chinese tablets, i got this one.
http://www.teclast.com/en/zt/X98Produalos/
Costed me 230 euro, quad core 2.2 GHz CPU, 2K display (2048x1536), dual boot system with Windows 10 and Android 5.1, 4 GB RAM and some other neat features.
This thing outperforms the Surface 3 (500 euro)
This has a far more powerful CPU, and what makes you think 8-core = worse performance?
The Galaxy Note Pro has a 2.3 GHz quad-core with 3 GB memory. This has a 1.6 GHz octa-core with 2 GB memory.
Basically nothing on a tablet will be using more than 2-4 cores. You're going to be watching Netflix. Probably only going to use one or two cores most of the time.
You don't even really need an octa-core in a desktop unless you're gonna be multitasking out the ass and rendering heavy HD video or something.

Do you have any gripes about your purchase? This kinda thing sounds like a dream come true for me.
Every spec on this thing is nothing short of disappointing. Basically no incentive to actually buy and lug around a tablet this horrendously big.
You know, I remember when cell phones started becoming popular. They were huge. It wasn't long until people started bragging about the size of their phones, with smaller and smaller sizes becoming more and more desirable, because let's face it, nobody wants to carry around what looks like a walkie-talkie from Vietnam.
Then we had smart phones. It wasn't long until we started bragging about how LARGE the screens were, though in the end we were still fawning over the ability to play a movie in 1080p resolution on a screen smaller than a typical post-card (closer to credit-card sized, if not a little bigger).
Then came tablets. With the larger screens, they were essentially just smart-phones that you couldn't call or text on (unless you installed apps to do this like Skype or Kinder or whatever the dagum kids are into these days), and bigger was better.
NOW we're arguing that they're getting too big, it's finally come full-circle.

You have to be careful with cheap Chinese tablets though. Friend of mine got some for his kids, each and every single one lasted about 6 months and refused to charge after that, and that includes the ones that WEREN'T damaged by his kids (ie all but one of them, one of the kids tried cramming the charging cable backwards on his, oof). :v:
