All four members are of Armenian descent, and are widely known for their outspoken radical views expressed in many of their songs confronting the Armenian Genocide of 1915 by the Ottoman Empire and the ongoing War on Terror by the US government. Depression, dark memories, love, insecurity, revenge, ego, personal identity, sex, corruption of government, war, social norms and corruption in/of society,corruption in/of Hollywood, death and afterlife, drugs (use, addiction, drug dealing, war on drugs), U.S. Prison System, censorship, mind control, commercialism and corporatism are common topics in SOAD’s music…The band consists of Serj Tankian (vocals), Daron Malakian (vocals, guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass, vocals) and John Dolmayan (drums). System of a Down has achieved commercial success with five albums, and many singles such as their breakout hit “Chop Suey!”, “Toxicity”, “Aerials”, “B.Y.O.B.”, “Question!”, “Hypnotize”, and “Lonely Day”,. Their works have earned them one Grammy Award amongst three nominations. System of a Down went on hiatus in 2006, with Serj Tankian pursuing a solo career and Daron Malakian and John Dolmayan forming Scars on Broadway. Shavo joined together with RZA from the Wu-Tang clan to form Hip-Hop group achozen. They hope to release their album towards the end of 2009. Used to listen to them a few years back the first album was p good

First album is amazing The rest have a few good songs here and there but it's really all about self-titled. They are really the only american band that has a style similar to Visual Kei bands like Gazette. It's kind of weird. It's confusing as I can see how people would want to considering their popularity. Too bad they are on hitasis. Daren says they arn't joining up, and Serj said they are but I really couldn't care, I still have their awesome albums. Scars on Broadway isn't as good as Serj's solo band, but overall System of a Down is where its at.

I'm not a mega fan but i really like the intensity switches in songs like Chop Suey, BYOB and Toxicity. The way it picks up up tempo so quick is awesome.

Great band, although I have to admit I never actually listened to self-titled before. I guess I'll put on my long list of music I will eventually listen. :)

System got me into metal. I used to listen to them a shitton. I've moved on now. I'll give them a listen occasionally, though. They're pretty good. Personally, I think Steal this Album! was their best.

I was borderline obsessed with this band back when they first came out (I was 16 back then), but then I moved on and it's been awhile since the last time I listened to them. Definitely one of my all-time favorite bands... I remember listening to this when I was like... 11.

I LOVE every SOAD song, with the only exception of Jet Pilot; that song is garbage. Every other song=awesome! Even some of the other bands that I like more than SOAD have songs I don't like! I can't say there are any other bands I like in which I like virtually every song of theirs. That's the thing about SOAD, their awesome because basically all of their songs are good to me.
