Generation kill is a HBO series about the invasion of Iraq, it follows a journalist (Evan Wright) attached to a Marines Recon team through the invasion, during this time he wrote a book about what he saw, this is the TV adaption. The Series is extremely faithful to what happened, and a few of the soldiers are even played by the actual soldiers (Rudy Reyes being a good example) The plot is far, far too long and complicated to put here, so enjoy these articles written by Evan.

It is an extremely tense and interesting story, also some of the lines Colbert and Ray have are hilarious.
If anyone is willing to type up a plot/character summary I'll add them to OP.
Good stuff, they now air it on Cinemax for us.
Try and buy the DVD, its really worth it.
I really recommend everyone watches this, apart from being just a great goddamn show (as most HBO productions are), it depicts a completely different face of war from that of what is displayed in shows like Band of brothers.
I saw this and it's amazing. I'd put it up with The Hurt Locker
Looks great, what modern war films would you compare it to? Is it similiar in style to Band of Brothers (bearing in mind BOB is WW2 of course)
It is very similar to Band of Brothers in the realism factor. The whole thing was made from a journalists journal as well as some background stories from soldiers which were there.
I love the series ,and it another reason why HBO has me psyched to watch "The Pacific"
I love Generation Kill, I've even read the original book.

The Hurt Locker
It's nothing like any of the WW2 films
Anyone seen Over There, pretty similiar premise (Realistic and dramatic look at the war)

NOTHING.
BoB is, like most war series and movies up until now, overly dramatized etc.

No. Over there is shithouse and it's not a realistic view, it's a heavily dramatized one just like every other war series/movie.
We're Oscar fucking Mike
Since this is up now, some one needs to make a thread for 'The Wire'.

Still a pretty good show, as far as shows go.
You gonna be watching the Pacific when that comes out next month?
the hurt locker doesn't compare to this
just sayin'
The Hurt Locker

the hurt locker is the most insignificant and horrible film, and compared to this it's very existence is a mistake
generation kill is the best show ever made
What book was this made after.
The last episode made me sad that it was only a mini-series. I wish and hope whoever was behind this will make an actual full show with the same setting and context. Not same characters though.

Also, I'm not saying that I didn't like the characters. I just want to remember Generation Kill as it was.

They had to end it, the journalist left and there's nothing more to make a show from.
Great, great show. Damn shame it ended after one season.
After seeing this thread I decided to rewatch it. On episode one so far.
