Now it may not really exist, but I think what may have made me come up with it.. is when Isaac Hayes made his soul music go BEYOND what it is. He isn't the greatest singer in the world, but he took the idea of soul and muddled it into his own and brought a new level of respect to the concept. The album in question has one of the greatest covers of all time, :smug: Give the opening track a listen and tell me how different it seems than regular soul music. Progressive Soul Regular Soul (with a bit of Southern style) [editline]8th January 2011[/editline] I just realised people may poke fun at Isaac Hayes due to him playing Chef from South Park. But he was a fantastic soul musician, rest in peace. :saddowns:
What other artists are there that do progessive soul?
What other artists are there that do progessive soul?
Nobody else that I know of. He is the only one to have thought so outside the genre that has made him a landmark in it. The actual genres that it accounts for are: Soul Funk, Deep Soul, Smooth Soul, Spoken Word
I'm liken Isaac Hayes.
I love Isaac Hayes, it's such a shame his last days will be remembered for his ties to scientology [editline]8th January 2011[/editline] I mean, I've heard he didn't even really like scientology, but when they get a hold over a member, it's hard to leave.
How did he die?
I believe it was a heart attack on a treadmill
Bad way to go, but I like his voice I'll pick up some of his stuff.
He was a true icon within the industry.
I have a copy of the thread playing in the back ground.
I think we need another soul pioneer, the soul scene seems to have slowed up a bit, and I'd love for another Marvin Gaye or Isaac Hayes to come into the field. Obviously it won't be another Marvin Gaye or Isaac Hayes, they were irreplacable, but someone who tears the scene up.
Okay I gotta ask, Would Cee Lo Green be concidered progressive Soul? I know hes like R&B.

Good point, I don't really think of him as a rapper, but he has some awesome beats.

The album is absolutely superb.
If I see any of his CDs around I'll pick one up.
This one or Shaft will be your best record to start with. Both very different but they each lead into each other.
Okay, will do.
One thing I forgot to mention was something that staggers me to this very day. This was released in the sixties. :psyduck: Both are over 40 years old...
