ARLINGTON, Va. - Vice President Joe Biden hailed America's fighting men and women Monday as the "spine of this nation," while President Barack Obama's Land of Lincoln tribute got washed out by a severe thunderstorm and high winds. Biden made the more traditional appearance at Arlington National Cemetery on Obama's behalf, saying the country has "a sacred obligation" to make sure its servicemen and women are the best equipped and best-supported troops in the world.
"As a nation, we pause to remember them," Biden said. "They gave their lives fulfilling their oath to this nation and to us."

I guess it rained on his parade...
Did it pass already? If so I was already asleep, unless I was sleep-talking then I paid my respects.
I guess Obama got what was coming to him.
Holy crap, Biden did something right for a change. And Obama got rained upon. This may be a good sign. But anyways, may our fallen heroes rest in peace.
I'm I the only one who notices that nobody gives a damn about the other guys? They defended their country, yet you people never notice those people since they aren't pissing on the right flagpole.
Heroes or not, it's nationalism unless you can't see your rivals as human beings...

Just shush.
May all the troops around the world, who've given their lives fir their country rest in peace.

Oh, right, I forgot, people in green clothing, being shot by other people in green clothing, are automatically nice. I'm not saying veterans and fallen soldiers are bad, or should be mistreated, but I doubt all of them are nice either, some of them used to make necklaces of other people's ears.
All coins have two sides, and I'm sick of the American "ALL SOLDURZ AND WARZ WE DO R GOOD"-propaganda. Most of them should be honored, yes, but what's more important is to make sure people stop dying. Not give ceremonies trying to justify it.
Now, I belive you were about to take what I said way out of proportions...

Why are veterans instantly good people again?
Hell, why do we have a day for soldiers and not for the people who died in the crossfire? Aren't they more deserving of remembrance?
Why are veterans instantly good people again?

Well, memorial day used to be called "Armistice Day" which celebrated the end of WWI were no one had a choice to join. But sometime after WWII it was decided to be called memorial day. As for the innocents that died (civilians, animals) I think they are commemorated on some other day, if there is one. But that is what we call hypocrisy.
EDIT: As far as I know, the Veteran being a "good person" is really up to the individual's moral implications.

I think people who were willing to die for their family, friends, and country deserve quite a bit of respect.
This thread sickens me.

Like I said just shush.
I try to honor all the troops, even the ones from other countries, it doesn't matter if they're nice or not, they're fighting so you don't have to. So to close this argument, just shush.

Uhm, they are fighting just for the hell of it, if I ran things, nobody would be fighting, since it's a dumb thing to do. If you're gonna be a caveman, make like one and get off the internet.

Not necessarily. Not everyone joins the army because of apple pie and honor and American values you know.

Uh, isn't fighting sort of bad?
You know, what with all the killing and all.

Yeah, but as seeing it's never going to stop, might as well make ourselves feel better about it.
Yeah, but as seeing it's never going to stop, might as well make ourselves feel better about it.
"Instead of doing something against it, lets rather declare it alright". No, we might not.
I never thougtht anyone would actually side with me here. But I guess it makes sense, alot of other people know the value in words rather than handgrenades.

that's a terrible thing to do
They made the ultimate sacrifice.
It's a shame, you don't have to like the government or be nationalistic to simply understand their sacrifice and simply give them a little respect. After all they died, so show some fucking respect.
But no most of you are spoiled prats that don't respect anything or anyone. This day isn't just for troops from iraq or our current war. This is all troops, WWI, WWII, ect.
If it wasn't for these people and some of the technology that came because of the wars you wouldn't have the shit you have and you wouldn't necessarily have some of the freedoms you have.
Freedom is never free, remember that.

Not all fights are for freedom, not all soldiers are good people.
The reason I'm acknowledging that is because I dislike this military culture we have in the states where the moment you join the army you're somehow a good person. That's not how virtue works.
But no most of you are spoiled prats that don't respect anything or anyone.
Maybe you should think about that. There are more complex reasons why people loath what the "respect" is standing for. I understand what you are trying to say, but its not that simple.
That is, if you are not talking about Facepunch/teenagers here.

Oh, how touching, allow me to wipe my tears on the American flag, since it's nice, pretty, patriotic tears filled with the blood of godless north Korean communists...
:fuckoff:
If I have to chose between world peace or "offending" some dead people for saying that war is wrong under any circumstances, then guess what, I pick the second one. I'm pretty sure that it's alot more disrespectful to go all "what happened to these men was right, and should be honored", than going "let's make sure nobody is exposed to this horror again.", I'm pretty sure that if they rose from their graves and had to chose between siding with me, the one who wants them to be able to sit at home, living in peace, or you, the wannabe-soldier who sucks up to authority and how they send people out to a hellish meatgrinder known as "war", pretty sure they'd kick your ass, pull down your pants, shove the flag in it, and then salute it!
You will never have peace Vinze, and even if you did run things, no one would give a fuck about what you said. Lets say you become president of America, or UK, or where ever you live. Are you going to disarm and dismantle
your army? Because the moment you do, other countries are going to attack you.
Radical groups who don't like your god or your views are going to attack you because you're different. Then what about a police force? Since you want to be peaceful, and wouldn't want a war at all, the police must go to
since they could "disturb the peace" so then you have no control over your
people.
So you look outside your window, smoke filling the air, screams of people getting killed, women being raped, but you can sit in your chair and relax, this is peace right?
I don't like war, and i'm sure none of the soldiers like fighting.
Marines don't like fighting, British Forces don't like fighting, etc etc..there's no one who likes to fight, but there's going to be people
who are a threat, that will want to kill you because you're just a little different, or you're views don't go with their religion.
You think, that if you ruled anything that everyone is gonna stop, drop to their knees and suck your peace cock? No pal, it don't work that way. Get off the computer, and look at the world, it's full of people who want to kill you because you're different, and there is people who want to take the call, and fight just so you can sit on your ass and tell the internet how bad they are.

No one said they're all good. I'm simply saying show some respect, they're dead. To sit there and disrespect the majority of men and women (and discredit their completely honorable service records.) because some bad people is fucking stupid. I agree about the military culture thing in the states. But it is Memorial Day, so stop with generalizations. Not asking you to get on your fucking knees and kiss someones boots, but show some respect for the fallen.

I love how everyone assumes that a memorial automatically makes some thing right. No one said that and for you and others to jump to that conclusions makes you all stupid fools. We can all agree war is bad.
There is a 9/11 memorial and 7/7 memorial for those that died. It doesn't mean what happened was right, it is simply a memorial. Don't confuse patriotism with respect. I'm not from America, I've been to many places and experienced many cultures. But I'm not going to act like an asshole, you don't have to like what happens, you don't have to agree with it. If you don't like it simply :fuckoff: and move along. You can try and believe in this stupid idea of world peace. But it will never happen, we've been fighting each other sense time began.
TLDR You're a fool.
Without war there can be no peace & One cannot know peace without knowing war.
TL;DR you are pretty naive Vinze

A few things, captain warmonger:
A) Global Marketing and trading is an easy way to establish international relations, nobody wants war if peace is more profitable.
B) Defending, sure, I get that, it makes sense. But Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Bosnia and Hiroshima all lacked reasources to invade or take over a country, yet, America slaughtered them harder than a paid actor would slaughter a latex-cow in a PETA commercial.
C) Who said anything about law enforcement removal? If someone is a prick, gun them down. But don't make a cheesy "Bankrobber memorial day".
Get your head out of the armybucket and look at alternatives before you make a giant painting where women are being chainsawed to death, calling it "Peace". Your arguments are so rediculously magnified and lacking of facts from the other party, so it dosn't surprise me that you like to disfigure your rivals with explosives.
I'm not another bubbleheaded code pink optimist, but I know that greed always comes before bloodthrist, thus rendering peace a possibility.
