• Buying Videocam, need help with them.

Yo, I'd really like to get a camcorder or videocamera, depending on what you call them. I do media + digital art at college and i know my way around post production programs. However, the system for hiring cameras and using them at college is a bit flakey and not easy to organise, so i'd like to get my own. What makes a good camera, Unfortunately my budget is between £100 + £500. Preferably around the £200 mark.. HD, simply, full HD camera, £150. Can't be THAT good, if it's only £150, what makes it so cheap, what will be in this camera that makes it only worth £150. What is in videocameras that makes them good/bad, lenses, sensors, i don't know the jargon. Hope you can help. Thank you!
How about that canon eos camera thing, that i dont remember the full name of. I think it can film HD and takes pictures ofcourse. Dont take my word for it, just throwing out ideas.
It's about £500. There is a cheap ass samsung HD with a 10x optical zoom that records to SD cards, about £150. But look for an old SD one on eBay like a Sony TRV900 and some other good stuff.
Any videocam will do, as long as it can show your tiny penis atleast 3ft away, while you film your homemade pornos :v: Just remember, if you're buying an HD cam, make sure to ALWAYS buy a fast-writing card, they cost more, but they're sure as hell worth it
I think that a proper DV cam could easily surpass a cheap HD cam in quality.
Alright, what do you mean by a "Proper" dv cam. What price would that be. The mini DV's we use at school cost £1,599. (Canon XM2). What about the writing method, DV, SD Card, etc, what effect does that have on the camera & quality? How do you know if it's a fast writing card, what is the technical name for them? Thanks guys :)
A VX2000, PD150, XL1, XL2, PDX10, TRV950, TRV900 is a nice selection to start you off. You will learn more from one of these than you will from a cheap camera. The first two were used by the BBC and the XL1 I think was used on 28 Days Later. Scour eBay, your are bound to find something. [editline]10:30AM[/editline] These all use MiniDV.

They're for home movies and hobby films, so the video won't have that movie look (it'll look like what you see on the news or on low budget sitcoms), but they have most of the features that higher end cameras have, and are available with either internal hard drives or 2" DVD Cartridges like the ones for the PSP. (Get the hard drive version) I have an HDR-SR10 Carl Zeiss Edition (Vario-Sonnar optics) with CMOS, Surround microphone, 40 GB hard drive, Full HD 1920x1080 AVCHD format encoding, and 4 Megapixel still-shot capabilities (great for stopmotion videos). I don't exactly know the price, but I know it's a good value. It has yet to fail me.

Alright thanks for the input guys, really informative! :) However, none of them are in my price range! :P Used ones are obviously cheaper, would you recommend buying used cams?
YES! All the ones I suggested can be found on ebay. If you can stretch your budget a bit you will get a brilliant camera. Don't bother with HD. To learn, you don't need it. HD flip cams are basic Hi def cams that go up to 1080p, but they only do audio and video with a limited optical zoom and a 3mp snapshot. You can't do stuff like attach a shotgun/boom mic or anything fancy like interchangable lenses
Which is why he would learn more from an SD kickass camera.
Does it have peaking and zebras? [editline]12:22PM[/editline] or a mic input?
It doesn't have an input for an external mic, but it was never intended to be used with such equipment. I'm actually uploading a video to my new Youtube account that I made with it if anyone wants to see video footage examples.
Check Camcorderinfo for a camera that fits in your budget: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/
