Stalin’s escort loses AK47 magazine with 30 bullets at Madurai airport
For the second time this month, the Madurai airport virtually turned into a carnival ground as more than 3,000 people swarmed the venue with a band of musicians to receive Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin on Friday evening. Caught in the multitude, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier, part of the escort team, lost a magazine loaded with 30 bullets from his AK47 rifle.
thats kinda clumsy, especially if your guarding a important person.
Also, how could you lose a loaded magazine attached to your gun that easily?

The ak has a very large release switch, it is possible it got snagged on his clothes as he was turning, causing it to fall out.
This does not however explain how he didn't notice hid gun get a lot lighter.

Found a pic with it highlighted as a bonus.
Do they actually use the old 47 model?
At least it was just some bullets rather than when an MI5 agent left their glock in a toilet.
Wait Stalin? Who is this Stalin?

Ok I'm not sure who the person who was escorted is, and at first I somehow read it as Putin. Don't ask me how.
Second, it seems that the guards were pushing through a dense crowd and the soldier suddenly noticed his magazine was missing.
I really hope the guy doesn't lose his job over it. It really isn't the end of the world and it was a handful of guys trying to control an entire crowd.
Also I am rather surprised it was an AK47, as those are quite out of date and I didn't think of India as being forced to use such dated hardware. Particularly in crowded civilian environments. 7.62x39 tends to go in one direction for a good while, regardless of most barriers. Seems dangerous for protection detail armaments.

Especially odd is that they use both Western and Russian caliber firearms.
Found Stalin.

Cheap and reliable.
why use a 47 when there is the more widespread, cheaper, lighter, and more reliable AKM

They use both.
why use a 47 when there is the more widespread, cheaper, lighter, and more reliable AKM
Tbh I don't think it's a genuine AK-47, the journalist just regards them as the same. The period in which the 47 was manufactured was a fairly short time, and it had manufacturing difficulties which were overcome with the AKM.

Why would you name your kid after Stalin?
Why would you name your kid after Stalin?
People in some parts of India look up to people like Stalin and Hitler as strong, nationalistic leaders, for some reason.
genuine ak-47s are extremely rare and worth ridiculous amounts of money, it was likely an AKM or chinese t-56. It could have even been an INSAS, since they look similar to a journalist and have the same mag catch system.

I can imagine a fight in a schoolyard between two children named Stalin and Hitler.
"I've got france and poland!"
"Oh yeah? Well in a few years, I'LL HAVE HALF OF EUROPE, HITLER."
"Screw this, I'm going to murder a few million people."
"Ha! I already do that inadvertently with our shitty economy, and directly with my overbearing dictatorship!"
:v:

This might have something to do with it.

The guy likely lost the magazine and didn't notice because I'm guessing he was carrying more than one (who brings only 30 rounds to a professional gunfight?) and it may not have even been attached to the weapon at any time. Not sure how you would actually go about losing it though...

It isn't a video game. It is unlikely a guard like this would ever use his gun and if he had to he wouldn't use thirty rounds.

It isn't a video game. In reality extremely large amounts of ammo are expended to achieve a single neutralization. Suppressive fire is the order of the day.
Honestly, anyone who can go to the airport and not lose things is a wizard.

You truly are an idiot!
Carrying your gun around with bullets chambered, and not planning on using them is really irresponsible. It probably wasn't even loaded.

Who says that there was a bullet chambered? It could have been loaded but no round chambered.

Woeh, someona mead a speeling mistak on the internit.
Who cares.

Well I guess not, but even then I wouldn't want to keep the magazine in the gun.

But, that's the point of being a security guard.

Who said it was attached to his gun? It could have been a spare magazine that fell out of an unsecured ammo pocket.

Except in this case it likely actually was an AK variant or a gun that highly resembles an AK.
