Hey guys I rarely post in this section but am a constant lurker. I've learned that you guys know you're stuff pretty well so I figured I'd see what you think. For the time being I'm driving my mothers front wheel drive 2008 chevy equinox (automatic), I went around a tight corner while accelerating and messed something under there pretty badly (I think). Now whenever I'm not in park or neutral the vehicle makes a low whining noise and in addition when I shift into reverse there's a click and a teeny lurch. I figured since it happened during a turn that it may have been the differential but after observing the noise and a bit of observation I think it's something with the transmission. Since it's an automatic the transmission is planetary gears so I'm 90% sure I didn't break those (in addition if I fucked them up the noise wouldn't be consistent in both drive and reverse right?). I have a problem with the bands or clutch. I know it's probably going to be expensive (I hope it isn't but I know it's going to be) and I am taking it to the shop for a lookover tomorrow. I sorta know what may be wrong and I'll find out for sure tomorrow but for now I just wanted to bounce some ideas off you guys. What do you guys think? Edit: Could be bearing as well.
Sounds like a normal transmission to me...
Sounds like a normal transmission to me...
Oh it works like normal save the weird shit that happens when shifting into reverse but the thing was dead silent before the incident (except reverse gear, something went screwy with that one about a year ago).
It sounds exactly like my transmission, so if something is wrong let me know. I'd hate to know that I've been driving around on a bad tranny :S

Also if anybody is in Southern CA and see a black equinox at Top Gear Automotive give me a wave! And depending on what's wrong your condolences. . . :suicide:
When i turn left at low speed, i hear a whinning noise too, its the bearing.
Yeah I took it to the shop, they couldn't find anything and told me it's just how the transmission has aged, it still runs 100%. The one I drive has an absolutely silent transmission so I guess I know what to look forward to in the future. . . But there was no repair to pay for so it's allllllll gooooooood.
Thought so. My transmission has had a LOT of work done to it. Two full rebuilds and $3500 later and it still works so I'm happy!
Is it like a whining noise that gets louder as the engine revs? Wahwahs with the lurching?? :o
