Hey Guys. Just wanted some opinions on what I've done so far, and what I should do next.
Here's what it used to be.
Nvidia geforce 9200
2GB Ram
250GB Hard drive
AMD Phenom X3 Processors
200-250 Watt PSU
Nvidia Nforce 720a motherboard
Here's what it is now.
4GB RAM
400GB Hard-Drive
Nvidia/Zotac Geforce 550 Ti amp edition
nvidia 720a motherboard
500 Watt PSU
AMD Phenom X3 Processors
Been playing around with it for about a week, and I'm happy with it. So what have I done wrong? I'm sure there's more room for improvement besides the graphics card.
955 rather then the 3-core phenom, although you seem to be reusing yours so i presume that you're on a low budget. 560ti (if you can afford it), spinpoint f3 1tB (shouldn't be a problem, considering how cheap it is), and also specify what psu and RAM you are getting.
And do specify how much money you have to spend. That is very important.

edit, forgot that the am3+ cpu's will be released anytime soon
get a mobo that supports the am3+ socket, and use your phenom x3 until the new ones are released.

oh you already bought it
well what david said, although another hard drive would do you good too
i'm almost out of storage on my two spinpoint f3's and 2gB external already :Y
You can unlock your X3 (possibly) to four cores, get a second 550 Ti, AM3+ motherboard and possibly a new power supply more comfortable SLI.
Well I get 100 euro a week stuff here. Which apart from the odd trip here and there, I'm spending on computer parts and upgrades. A new motherboard is definatly something I was intending to buy and a new processor aswell. I was originally going to buy an upgraded phenom version, say the Phenom II x6 or something.
The graphics card is sufficient though. I like to play games, but over the years of playing them in bad quality. Quality of graphics isn't a huge concern to me any more.
I wouldn't upgrade from the X3, just buy a cheap CPU cooler and unlock it since games won't properly utilize the x6 so you'd be wasting money as far as that's concerned, either get an AM3+ motherboard now which supports crossfire for a second 550 Ti later on and wait for bulldozers, or save your money altogether and either get a 2500k soonish or wait for SB-E/Ivy bridge and get one of those (little information on ivy though).
That's basically it, I'd recommend getting an F3 1tb too as a cheap upgrade, but in the long term getting a new processor at this minute in time, especially on the AMD side of things coming from an X3 is completely worthless, save your money for now is my recommended advice and see what happens in the market, an X3 whether unlocked to an X4 or not with a 550 Ti is definitely capable so there's no need to do anything just yet, especially just for the sake of it.
But as I said, if you want to spend money look at a new case/F3 or power supply as you'll need all three at some point down the road.
Thanks for the advice, I'll definitively try to follow it. I think my money is going to need to go on a new power supply now. The 500watt one I just got today seems to have weird power readings.
+3.3v = 1.84v
+5V = 5.62V
+12V = 11.97V
-12V = 11.21V
-5V = 0.48V
+5V = 5.13V
Vbat = 3.18V
Its rather annoying, I cant play any of my beloved games.

Cant, Ireland.
We cant get newegg parts here, though I will search for these through my own channels.
Stop telling him to get a new GPU, he's got a 550 Ti and it's not super powerful but upgrading from it without just getting a second for SLI is just a waste of money.
So my plans are as follows...
1# Buy a better PSU, I quite liked that one folgergeist mentioned so I may get that.
2# Buy a better motherboard (Am3).
3# Buy a secondary Graphics card for SLI.
4# Upgrade processor if need arises.
Not a half bad plan, even if I do say so myself.
am3+*
That's the plan, don't get a 750w supply though, get a 550-650w max, that's enough to comfortably SLI 550 Ti's, anymore and you're just wasting money.
I'm getting this PSU, should arrive Friday or Monday.

With any small amount of luck, I should have my computer operational long before Skyrim's immanent release.
Got all the parts, and I'm extremely happy with the whole computer. Its fast, reliable, powerful and has only caught fire once ( this actually happened)

Explain...?

Must have been some faulty wiring in the case. One of the wires caught fire, so I disconnected that wire and I'll replace it eventually. My heart was in my mouth though, I thought my newly upgraded computer had just killed itself.

+5v is dangerously out of spec and -12v is also far out of spec. I recommend to turn the machine off and not use it until you have a quality PSU.
That wasn't a huge upgrade on your behalf.

I already replaced that PSU, now I'm using the Corsair cx600. Everything is going fine, and no more fires.

I went from a computer that blue screened every time I turned on a game, to a computer that can play any game I've put into it. I think it was a HUGE upgrade in terms of reliability and performance.
The fire, I believe, was caused by my own stupidity. I knew that hooking 2 power supplies to a single computer was a bit fool-hardy and dangerous, but I wanted my PC.
I turned on one power supply after the other, with a space of about 20 seconds in between, causing some kind of over=powering of a single wire that wasn't connected to anything. I don't understand the physics behind it, but I know it must have been that.
To celebrate the Huge upgrade, I bought some steam games to tide me over till skyrim's release.
