• "Black Screen of Death" Issue

On my PC (currently using another laptop), after login, I can't see anything besides the cursor. I CAN, however, open up task manager and whatnot. I've searched google plenty, and apparently this error is common and called "The Black Screen of Death". Many articles keep saying do to these methods. - Put into safe mode (result: nothing happened) - Open Task Manager, run Explorer.exe (result: said 'could not find') - Restart (result: still shows black screen) So I leave it to you, Facepunch, what is wrong with my PC and how do I fix it without consulting a Tech dude IRL? Yes, I know I am very unknowledgable about this stuff, but please help me.
System Restore or reformat. Seems like some important system files are gone.

How weird, it was working just fine yesterday.
Do you happen to have an NVIDIA graphics card in your PC? If you do then try this and see if it helps: http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=586183. Though I'm not sure if it will help since you are getting an error when trying to launch Explorer.exe from the Task Manager, but it's worth a shot. If that doesn't work, try running System File Checker (SFC.exe). Instructions on how to do that can be found here: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html
What you could try is: Open the run box (from task manager if needs be) type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes Insert the windows disc and let that run It compares key system files with those that came on the initial disc.
Run box?
Safe mode with command prompt, type msconfig at the prompt. Run a diagnostic start up.
Run box is the "new task window" button on task manger or Windows Key - R
