Craig Ferguson is close to a deal to launch an early-evening talk show starting in fall 2015.
The outgoing host of CBS' "The Late Late Show" would introduce his half-hour syndicated series on stations in a slot just before prime time, according to a source with knowledge of the deal who spoke on the condition of anonymity because that person wasn't authorized to comment publicly.
Ferguson is expected to bring along his robot skeleton "sidekick," Geoff, as well as executive producer Michael Naidus.
A Ferguson representative didn't immediately respond Monday to a request for comment.
So he left late night because he was worried he was going to hate what he loved doing just to go to another network and host an early evening, half hour version of the thing he's been doing for 10 years.
Not that I'm complaining, Craig Ferguson is great, but it just seems odd.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear about some form of internal contract arguments or something with him saying something that one of the big wigs didn't like at some point in the future.

Have you seen the episode of Louie where Louis C.K. is being used by CBS executives to try and get Jerry Seinfeld to renegotiate a lower price for his contract to replace Letterman?
From what I understand, they basically did that to Craig for real. He was in talks to replace Letterman and then Stephen Colbert came out of basically nowhere and got it. It's my bet that Craig was probably a little upset with CBS about that.

That half-hour version could be completely different.
Also this warmed my heart

And yeah, good to see Geoff should be coming. I mean, Grant built Geoff for Craig, it wasn't built for or by the show or CBS.
YES.
Craig Ferguson is a tool
A fucking hilarious, awesome tool who definitely needs his own talk show
I like Craig Ferguson. He might shamelessly recycle jokes night after night and shit, but somehow he still makes it fun to watch. He is my favorite late night host.
But I don't care for whoever's voicing Geoff. I thought it was a hell of a lot funnier when they only gave Geoff like 4-5 pre-recorded lines each night, and it seemed like his controls were being handled by somebody barely competent enough to push buttons. I liked that they would sometimes cut over to Geoff and he'd just be totally inanimate that time because the operator wasn't paying attention, or he would respond about 5 seconds late with something that didn't even make sense in that context. The guy who does the voice live now just isn't very funny.

Or maybe like in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
