First of all, let me start out by saying that I know most laptops aren't even upgradeable, so please don't flame, and etc.
I currently have an HP Pavilion dv7-2173cl laptop, and it comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2GHz. I've been thinking of upgrading for some time now, but I'm not sure if it's possible for the model I have. Can someone shed some insight on this question please?

And if this is the wrong section can a mod please move it?
After checking the parts page for your laptop: http://h20141.www2.hp.com/HPPARTS/Search_Results.aspx?mscssid=7C7941E577C74912B83D46D644581280&SearchIn=Product
The only processor shown there is the one currently in it. Even if you could find one that uses the correct package (Micro-FCPGA), it's quite possible that HP has some sort of retarded block built into the BIOS that would prevent a different (read, not a P7350) CPU from being used.
They're also quite expensive. For example, the P8800, which would theoretically work in your laptop and is clocked at 2.66 GHz, costs $241 each in a bulk of 1000 from Intel, so I imagine a single one would run $350.
I would recommend asking HP about this, as I imagine doing this would void your warranty.
only BGA479 socket processor will fit. So don't except to get i7 or something

Oh I see, and thanks for the reply as well!
T9800 is your best bet. But you won't find it cheap
The T9800 doesn't use the correct package.
How so?
My bad, you're right. I don't know where my train of thought was going.
