(It was revealed that Donald Trump, who takes great pride in the image and brand that his last name represents, was actually legally changed from Drumpf to Trump in the early 1900s.)
On the Sunday morning talk shows, Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump refused to condemn endorsements from a prominent white supremacist and former KKK leader, and said he retweeted a Mussolini quote because "it's a very good quote."
Trump refused to condemn that endorsement or say he didn't want the support of white supremacists — four times.
"I don't know anything about David Duke. I don't know what you're even talking about with white supremacy or white supremacist. I don't know. I don't know, did he endorse me, or what's going on?" he said. That prompted a back-and-forth that went, in part:
Trump: I don't know what group you're talking about. You wouldn't want me to condemn a group that I know nothing about. ... If you would send me a list of the groups, I will do research on them and certainly I would disavow them if I thought there was something wrong.
Tapper: The Ku Klux Klan?
Trump: You may have groups in there that are totally fine and it would be very unfair. So give me a list of the groups and I'll let you know.
Tapper: I'm just talking about David Duke and the Ku Klux Klan here.
Trump: Honestly, I don't know David Duke.
Trump's previous run-ins with David Duke included when he ran for the Reform Party presidential nomination in 2000. When Trump ended his campaign, he pointed to Duke as one of his key reasons for deciding to leave the race.

But that's not where Trump's being linked to the Klan ends.
In 1927, supporters of Benito Mussolini's fascist movement and the Ku Klux Klan rioted in New York's Jamaica district, according to the Washington Post. Seven men were arrested for the resulting fight, including Fred Trump, Donald Trump's father.
A New York Times reporter posed the question to Trump regarding his father's supposed involvement in the riot.
The celebrity businessman initially confirmed that his father did live on a street near where the riots happened, but when the topic of the arrest came up Trump immediately denied any connection.
"My father was not involved, was never charged and I never even heard this before," said Trump to Times reporter, Jason Horowitz.
Coincidentally, the younger Trump was involved with a mishap based around Mussolini.
He unknowingly retweeted one of Mussolini's famous quotes Sunday morning.

The retweet turned out the have been a long running game by the news site Gawker. According to a post on their website, two Gawker staff members created a Mussolini bot by the name "ilduce2016" which would tweet Mussolini quotes, but attribute them to Trump.
"Gawker Media Executive Editor John Cook expressed some concern that the joke behind the account was far too obvious, and wouldn't trick anyone but a complete idiot," Alex Pareene wrote on Gawker, revealing that they had been behind the stunt.
On NBC's Meet the Press, host Chuck Todd posed to Trump that "it is better to live one day as a lion than 100 years as a sheep," was from the fascist dictator.
When Trump waffled in response, Todd asked if Trump minded that he associating himself with Mussolini.
"No, I want to be associated with interesting quotes," he replied, and said that his Twitter followers like to see that he posts interesting things.

That seems to be a very reasonable quote and I don't see why Gawker is pushing on this other than literal clickbait
I think the issue is more with the fact he retweeted it thinking it was his own quote
still a big fuss over nothing though
yea prett much only confirming everyones worries
It wasn't even him, it was his social media team
Which, being his social media team and part of his marketing, should be more aware than Trump himself about stuff he's said.
Wow that is all so relevant
Wow he forgot about some guy he had a run-in with over 15 years ago and denouced, and this is news why other than him avoiding a question out of fear he's being baited to accuse someone he doesn't know/remember of being a KKK member or a group?
Because that's what it sounds like he thought he was trying to be tricked into saying X = Hitler.
Meanwhile this is Obama on someone who was a KKK recuiter, who promoted the KKK while in office in the 1990s, and spouted NIGGER NIGGER NIGGER on national TV less than ten years ago.

Here's Miss Hillary on him too.

Because hurr Fascism.
Ignoring the fact one of the most famous out spoken Leftists of our Generation, Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against The Machine, used it as a name of one of his acts.
Didn't he already retweet some actually vaguely racist post by a guy with "White Pride" like right in his name or something? Some random quote by Mussolini doesn't really seem relevant by comparison. I mean, there's probably Hitler quotes about how to cook pancakes or something out there. Though if you really want to embarrass someone, you could try tricking them into quitting Donald Trump.
Increasingly Nervous Man

Didn't know where this came from, had to watch the John Oliver video.
So I guess this is a thing now...
Increasingly Nervous Man
Since you like quoting the Onion so much:
Increasingly Nervous Man
dude SO funny and relevant
This is wrong on so many levels
David Duke never endorsed Trump and actively denies doing so

Relevant part at 2:15
A CNN article from earlier clearly states:
After ranting about "Jewish supremacy" and Jewish domination of the media, Duke took time out of two of his radio programs last week to talk up Trump's candidacy as a "great thing"... Duke, who previously served in the Louisiana statehouse and ran for U.S. Senate in that state, did not endorse Trump and said Trump remains untrustworthy for his "deep Jewish connections" and support for Israel. Trump, whose daughter Ivanka converted to Judaism and is religiously observant, has been very vocal about his support for Israel and has slammed President Barack Obama's administration for strained relations with the Israeli government.
Trump has disavowed any connection with him in a video

Isn't that just a Roman proverb and not something by Mussolini though?
Isn't that just a Roman proverb and not something by Mussolini though?
It's essentially a common quote throughout most cultures.
I'd prefer to die standing, than to live always on my knees.
i hate trump but these cheap and shallow jabs at his character do nothing but make his dissenters look petulant
we should be focusing on what he really does wrong rather than going "HE SUPPORTS MUSSOLINI AND THE KKK BECAUSE OF THESE VERY TENUOUS AND VAGUE CONNECTIONS HE MIGHT HAVE TO SOMETHING THEY SAID"
The press that this guy gets is just ridiculous
The more people try to get him look like an ass, the better he looks. He's perfectly capable of fucking up on his own, people should just let him be rather than giving him ammo.
This always backfires because it proves Trump's points exactly. Every time this happens, someone points out how it is false, and the media bias is obvious.
Wow, this thread is just ridiculous, especially coming from a moderator.
First of all, that Mussolini quote is literally nothing, no one cares, not even here on FP, just read the comments in this thread.
Secondly, He clearly disavowed David Duke's endorsement, and it turns out he didn't even get endorsed by the guy.
Also "Drumpf".. really? That's the most childish you could put in the title.
Welcome to Starpluck threads.
Also, I love how the left claims to be more accepting of people but makes fun of Old World surnames.
"You wouldn't want me to condemn a group I know nothing about!"
Continues to make the religious persecution of Muslims a cornerstone of his campaign.

Old World surname for a guy with an Old World outlook on society.

This is false as hell, and shame on you for not fact checking. Here's an excerpt from the book that John Oliver himself referenced:

Fathom a guess what war they're talking about? World War 2, World War 1? No. The Thirty Years War. What year did that start again? Oh, 1618? Right, Trump changed his name in the 1900s for sure.
I don't love the man but the lack of factchecking when smearing the guy is ridiculous.
This always backfires because it proves Trump's points exactly. Every time this happens, someone points out how it is false, and the media bias is obvious.
Yeah, The media has plenty of legitimate points to criticize Trump but they go wild and end up giving him even more support.
Welcome to Starpluck threads.

If John ''IT IS STILL 2015 IN MY MIND'' Oliver would make a joke about Barack Obama's name being Barack Hussein Obama, he would get burned at the stake for that by the leftist media.
Furthermore, you don't see anyone bitching about Martin van Buren's grandfather changing his name from Maarten Cornelissen Maessen to Martin C. van Buren (Apparently president Martin van Buren was named after said grandfather).
So why does it suddenly have to be a big deal now?
The lion and sheep quote doesn't even originate with mussolini, it's just an Italian proverb lol. People getting their panties in a twist over Trump saying it are idiots
I don't get why Mussolini saying it would change the sentiment. Like, if Hitler had said 'We need peace on earth' as unlikely as it is, the fact that he said it shouldn't change the sentiment of it.
It's funny to watch as leftists and the GOP establishment scramble to try and defame Trump in any way they can. At this point you're literally name-calling.
Trump will make fun of anyone he wants without hesitation, but he needs to be nice to the KKK.

good job not reading any of the thread. Hillary and Bill Clinton have stronger connections to the KKK than Trump does.
