Now the brothers are looking for a way to return their real bodies. FMA and FMA: Brotherhood are my favourite japanese cartoons because they it seems that they are the only ones that aren't oriented at japanese people and weeaboos [release]Major Edward "Fullmetal Alchemist" Elric Edward Elric is the main protagonist of the show. After losing 2 of his limbs as a result of an unsuccessful Human Transmutation attempt he joined the Amestris State Military as a State Alchemist for the special privileges, such as access to the military-only parts of theNational Central Library, and a silver watch that increases alchemist powers. Her parents went to the Ishval Civil War as field medics when she was a child, leaving her with her grandmother, who owns an automail shop, which is probably the reason for Winry's obsession with technology. Her parents died in Ishbal, so Winry grew up in her grandma's shop, where she mastered the creation and repairing of automail. He is really proud of his large muscular body, and enjoys showing it off to people "for their enjoyment". He is also proud of his lineage, as the Armstrong family are rich and famous, and are skilled in many proffesions (possibly the source of their wealth). He is also fond of his daughter Elicia and wife, and shows pictures of them to everyone who surrounds him, oftem annoying them. She appears as a young beautiful woman with dark hair, and mostly black clothes. Usually she is accompanied by Gluttony who poses her almost as his mother.[/release] [release]Gluttony A stupid, simple-minded homunculus who doesn't usually think of anything other than eating. He can, and will eat almost anything he sees, because he has really strong jaws, acid for saliva, and a bottomless chamber for a stomach. His catchphrase is "Can I eat him ?", he asks that question to Lust asking permission to eat someone. He is quite intelligent, but it is outshadowed by his fierce temper and cockiness, his temper would be set off by insulting his large and sensitive ego, causing him to become angry and make mistakes.[/release] [release]Greed Greed, as his name suggests is a really greedy homunculus, so greedy that he betrayed the others and started living on his own, because his greed couldn't be satisfied when he was working with them. All he wants all the time is just some rest, even though he does really hard work, like digging the nation-wide transmutation circle for Father. He is the only Homunculus who is capable of using alchemy, because his arm originally belonged to Ed. He also can transmute his own body parts. His treats Sloth like his mother, much like Gluttony treats Lust, and protects her as much as he can.[/release] Alchemy - an advanced science based on altering objects using natural energy. This is known as "Transmutation". Transmutation has 3 steps: 1.Understanding: To transmute an object you must know what exactly the object is made of. 2.Deconstruction: The transmuted object's physical structure gets broken down, so the object becomes easier to manipulate 3.Reconstruction: The object gets a new shape. Automail - Mechanical prosthetic limbs. Usually automail is shaped like the original limb (hands or legs), but automail that has built-in weapons, or weapons that replace parts of the limb are also common Amestris - The large militarist country that most of the story takes part in. It is one of the largest countries in the FMA world. Transmutation Circle - A symbol required for trasmutation. It controls the flow of energy around the transmuted object Homunculus - People created by alchemy. The creation of homunculi is strictly banned. Although it is said that the ban is because of ethical ramifications, it was revealed that human transmutation is banned, so nobody would create a personal army (which is a bunch of bullshit in my opinion, someone who has a personal army should not care for any "laws") Chimera - Two or more creatures merged together alchemically Ishval - A part of Amestris destroyed in the Ishval Civil War. Ishbalans are known to have a slightly darker skin and red eyes. They also dislike alchemy, because they consider it blasphemy against their god, Ishvara. The Ishval Civil war - a massive war that started when an Amestrian soldier accidentally shot and killed an Ishvaran child. It lasted for seven years, but then quickly ended because of the State Alchemists' extermination of all Ishvalans (including civilians). Xing (2009 version only) - A country to the east of Amestris. Alkahestry - An alternative science, similar to Alchemy, but is quite different in some ways. It is practiced in Xing So, do you like FMA ? Personally I enjoy it alot. Infact, it's the only japanese cartoon I ever liked. Why do I like it so much ? Because of it's un-weeabooeyness. It's not about Japan, the main protagonist is not a japanese schoolgirl, he does not kill shit with katana swords, no ridiculous mecha machines, etc, etc. The show takes place in a country modelled after early twentieth century europe, the characters have european-sounding names (well, most of them do), and even the whole alchemy thing is really europe-esque. But of course my hate for weeaboos is not the only reason I like FMA. It also has interesting characters, an awesome backstory, and it's really an awesome series. Hope you enjoyed the thread, I didn't steal everything from a wiki like I did with the A:TLA thread, but I did refer to the Full Metal Alchemist Wiki for reference how to write the character profiles. If you have any questions about the series, feel free to ask them in the thread.
I really don't like anime, but this was one I really enjoyed.
I would recommend this series to anybody, it had some great under tones.
What do you mean ?
Great series and has a lot of depressing episodes like the chimera one near the beginning. I recommend.
Between the old anime and Brotherhood, I'd say go for Brotherhood. IMO, the plot was more enjoyable.
I had just began to like this as one of the few manga series I found interesting when chapter 108 came out and it ended. It's a great series.
Was one of the first I ever saw, I recommend this to everyone.
God i loved this anime. Sad ending though :smith:
The ending is Brotherhood is preety happy
It's decent enough, I think I'm around episode 18.
I've not watched Brotherhood yet i only wanna watch em dubbed.
I finished FMA:B this morning.
Oh god that chimera episode disturbed me when I first saw it :ohdear:
It wasn't as disturbing as it was sad.
I dislike the 2003 version because it strays from the manga entirely, 2009 was directly on the main plot.
The 2003 series plot is not at all worse, though
The 2003 plot is out of fucking nowhere, and I personally prefer the 2009 anime's plot (since I guess it's based on the manga)
It is out of nowhere, but that doesn't mean it's bad. It's just different. I'm totally fine with that, we have 2 awesome shows instead of one
I watched the original series when it came on TV a time ago. Also bought the movie.
Brotherhood is far better than the original; the original's ending is a movie where they [sp]end up in Germany[/sp] :ohdear:. I finished watching FMA: B a couple days ago... it has a happy ending, but it feels like it skips over what happens to them.
Is Brotherhood still being dubbed?
Yes, it airs on Cartoon Network
Very few animes have grasped my attention; this happens to be one of them. I have not watched many episodes (really about five to ten in total) but I did see Conqueror of Shembala and I frankly loved it. I could never catch it on TV because it was always on at like three AM. Nevertheless, the few episodes I did see convinced me that it was a good show.
This show is incredibly good
The ending to the series was bittersweet
BTW I'm watching Brotherhood, I didn't watch the original series
I love is anime! For an anime it is dark, and shows just how cruel and cynical people can be to each other. A father who turns his own daughter into a talking chimera just to keep his state alchemist position. And 2 years ago did it to his wife as well. That's twisted. A butcher, who murders his own wife and two brothers who both go on a killing spree, when they are caught they are not executed but have there souls ripped from there bodies and placed in a suit of armor, and ordered to guard a laboratory and kill all intruders. A former state alchemist who is imprisoned for killing his own chain of command, only to just be reinstated as a state alchemist again. He uses the sulfur in the human body to create bombs. And he thinks there is no greater sound than the "boom" and the body parts that fly everywhere. A group of black ops soldiers who are order to intentionally start a civil war that last 7 years. Who are then later betrayed and used as experiments for chimera research. Kimblee, Dorochet, and the Slicer Brothers are my favorite characters.
Full Metal Alchemist isn't dark, unless you're comparing it to schoolgirl animes.
Is it me or does the ending song sound like it sung by Americans
