Hey, anyone own or have experience with bolt action rifles? I'm thinking about getting a Remington 700 SPS: I was planing on getting the CDL because it has the aesthetics that appeal to me, but it isn't chambered for the .308 Winchester round: If I get the SPS, I'll replace the stock with this one (it doesn't have rubber grips). I'll paint the stock olive drab and I think it will look great against the blued receiver and barrel: So it should come out looking like the M40, but it won't have Macmillan stock: I'm not sure how strong synthetic stocks are and how they compare to wood stocks. So if anyone has experience with bolt action rifles, can you share your opinion?
...why?
hay dood i play3d mw2 and i was so pro with teh interv3ntion i wuld quiksc0pe nubs al d@y w/it u shuld ttly get it and ull be pr0 edit [sp]if you didn't catch it, this was a joke[/sp]
Koeniginator what did I tell you about huffing paint. Anyway, use google to find yourself a forum with people who actually know shit about guns, you aren't going to get much help here, pretty much garunteed.
...why?
Because I want to get involved with the sport of hunting. @ Snapzies I just figured some Facepunchers have experience with bolt action rifles because they're a rather domesticated, common type of firearm.
How old are you?
Because I want to get involved with the sport of hunting.
well, if you want to hunt, you should probably start with the regular stock rifle. not go and attach stupid shit to it and paint it. you go out in the wild with some half-ass painted stock on your rifle, you are just going to embarrass yourself.
Because I want to get involved with the sport of hunting. @ Snapzies I just figured some Facepunchers have experience with bolt action rifles because they're a rather domesticated, common type of firearm.
Unfortunately I have a lot of knowledge about firearms, just not bolt action rifles. All I can really say is what the stock is doesn't really matter unless it's plastic, never get plastic stocks. You're going to want a padded/rubber butt on your shoulder so that it doesn't hurt when it kicks, and learn how to zero a scope and do it down at a range before taking your rifle out for a spin.

They don't cheep out with those things, and with a plastic stock you have a lot less to worry about in terms of warping or the finish waring off.
I hate people who call all bolt-action rifles (even ones without scopes) snipers. They try to argue that they're all meant to have a scope. One of my pet peeves.

bolt actions are good especially as snipers
If they don't kill in one shot then you aren't using a bolt-action rifle.
evary1 noes tat b0lt aktions wer made 4 quiksc0ping nubs
what are you hunting?
if you didn't catch it, this was a joke
A bad joke. A really, really terrible joke.
what are you hunting?
There are boars and deer in my local area. They are most likely what I will hunt once I actually get involved with the sport.
a .22 magnum will do fine
lol hunting a bear with a .22 anything is like trying to destroy a tank with rocks. All you're gonna do is piss it off.
lol hunting a bear with a .22 anything is like trying to destroy a tank with rocks. All you're gonna do is piss it off.
I believe he said boars, but those little shits are not too far off from the aggression of a bear
you should hunt humans
I have a Karabiner 98, my opa's from WW2. I've tried my best to take good care of it and fires like a dream still.
implying .22 is a weak round in general
I read wrong, I read bears instead of boars. A .22 could kill a boar. FYI, .22 is a weak round, however it is very lethal, simply because the bullet is so small and light that it'll ricochet off bone. Shoot someone in the eye and you got brain soup Someone asked me what's wrong with plastic stocks. I, personally, find plastic uncomfortable, in comparison to wood stocks
Good for you, but nobody even used the word sniper until you did.
Wasn't talking about facepunch, was talking in general.
There is only one bolt action rifle. The Norwegian made Krag. Still, I say go for the CDL and paint it since you can't get the woodstock. It's not exactly a beauty, so slaughtering it won't matter.
implying .22 is a weak round in general
.22 might be good for squirrels and other varmint, but I think I might need something a little bigger to kill a boar. It might look really nice if I get a professional gunsmith to paint it.
