Friend wants me to build him a PC - How much do I charge? - Hardware & Software

Hey PC building section. The title pretty much says it all. He wants me to come up with a build to play MMOs on. I don't need help with the parts so much as I need help with charging him a reasonable price for building the computer. $50? Maybe $75? Is that too much? Too little? Dead on?

50 bucks seems like a reasonable amount.

If you're ordering the parts, you can try to get a few bucks more as he doesn't know the final price. Not saying to rip him off, but just get a good amount. I'm gonna charge my moms friend probably about $20-$30 because she's ordering the parts, but I'd charge $50-60 if I was.

Well if you don't need the money don't charge him. Usually they just give you something instead of you taking it from them.

Yeah. He's trusting me to pick out the parts and to build the computer.

I'd charge him about 10% markup. Much better than the 30 to a bajillion that most places charge.

Well does this friend have a decent amount of money. Cause if they do you should be fine charging him around like 40-60 dollars. If they don't have much money which would be kinda weird while buying a gaming computer but if it is true just don't charge him.

Be a friend and do it for free.

set a target like 700 then whatever you can get under that is yours

It all depends how much you need the money, I built computers for folk in the past... I don't ask for anything but they usually get me a case of beer or something as a thank you.

He said he didn't want me doing it for free. At the same time I don't want to screw him over. And I do thank you each for the input.

I settled for pizza and company

20 bucks if it's a friend. It's not like it will take long or anything.

Don't ask for a specific amount, let him decide what he gives you.
