I recently built a new computer (recently as in the last week or so). I also bought GTA IV so I could have a good game to play. Unfortunately, on max settings, I only get about 25-30 fps... What would I need to upgrade to get better fps? Here is my rig:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Hard Drive: SAMSUNG 7200 RPM 1TB
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 3.2 GHz Quad-Core
Memory: 4GB RAM
Graphics: HIS Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit
Tbh honest upgrading seems horribly unnecessary just for that reason.
Be sure you've patched GTA fully if you bought it retail instead of Steam, they help the performance quite a bit, though it's still by no means well optimized.
Well, not getting 50+ fps on max settings is very noticeable on this game. I bought GTA IV from Game Stop with over night shipping and I was kinda disappointed that I could only get 25 - 30 fps on max settings. But I guess, if it's because of GTA IV, then maybe an update isn't needed for my computer. I do get 200+ fps on Borderlands, but I think GTA IV's graphics sorta beasts Borderlands' anyway.
Why not try turning down a few things a bit such as anti aliasing?
gta IV on pc is a shitty unoptimised game
wait for bf3 to come out before you decide if you need to upgrade
Well, alright. I went to a website that said I would be able to run BF3 on Highest so we'll see...

What website did you go to?
I went to game-debate.com. I like that website. I also went to systemrequirementslab.com and went to Can You Run It.

I have no doubt you can.
We have the same CPU and a GTS 450 and we run BF3 on Ultra with at least 30fps.

A 570 will play it ultra in the full game at decent FPS.

It's true, pretty obvious this whole Nvidia sha-bang is a ploy to sell a shitload of video cards, specifically the nvidia computer calculator thing, I have a single 6870 which is capable of ultra in the beta (high settings in the real game) with 4x AA and still retain high FPS and the nvidia thing is telling me I need a GTX 560 which is worse to play the thing on medium, and it does take into account AMD cards, I can guarentee ultra isn't going to halve your FPS from high.
It's working too, I know loads of friends and people upgrading for BF3, bet they earned millions from this ordeal.
