Like the title says, I really don't know how to tell if a GPU is compatible with a MoBo. How do I know? How can I tell? Same with the CPU... I can build computers all day, but I have no idea how to tell what is compatible with what and I really want to know how.
This is my MoBo:

I was wanting this GPU:

And this CPU:
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0GHz (4.2GHz Turbo)
Yes, it is compatible. How big is your powersupply?
I also suggest getting the R9 270x instead because it's a rebrand, but it's newer.

Oh, really? Well, thanks for the suggestion!! But how do you know it's compatible? I'd hate to have to ask every time I wanted to upgrade lol
EDIT: OH and my PSU is 500W. I've been looking at this one: EVGA 600 B 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified 600W
Oh wait, I think you need an AM3+ motherboard instead.
Anyways, it's all about the PCI lanes. You can pretty much use a motherboard from the mid 2000's and the card will work, just not as well because the PCI lane would be of an older gen and the CPU is old.
Yeah, no go on the motherboard. I'd suggest just saving up and getting a new CPU and mobo together.
I agree with Levelog too. The FX series is 2 years old and really not worth it. They may have more cores, but their cores aren't as strong as Intel's and their overall power usage isn't too good.
AMD's GPUs are really great though. They use a bit more power than Nvidia, but have better price to performance.
Alright well for a motherboard, how about this:
MSI 970 Gaming AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
And if not that CPU, what do you suggest?
That one is compatible, but can you tell us your whole budget? Tell us what tasks you will do on your computer? Organize the other parts into a PCpartpicker list?
It will help a lot.
I'd highly recommend an intel board/proc for the reasons Original User posted. What's your budget?
Alright well this is what I've got so far:

I don't particularly have a budget right now, but I don't want to spend a shit load of money...
I've been playing a lot of Skyrim recently but with certain ENB mods, I only get like 20-30 fps and it's annoying. I always get 60 fps on Skyrim with no ENBs. I really just want to have something a bit better than what I've got.

Far better performance for Skyrim from the CPU. As for the GPU, the only difference between the 270 and 270x is that it's overclocked, which you can do yourself.
How big is your power supply ExitWound?
Right now, it's only 500w. But I plan on upgrading that because I know I need to.
Depends on the brand. A solid brand will do fine with a 500 watt for any single gpu system
Alright, cool. So I can hold off on a new PSU for a while. Thanks!
