• VideoGamer.com: Ubisoft's The Crew features Microtransactions, 1080p/30FPS, may also have Always Onl

Some new news about the sandbox racer The Crew have emerged through both a representative from Ubisoft and the games creative director, and it's probably not the news you wanted to hear. First of all is micro-transactions. The creative director promises that, while the game won't stop you from progressing if you don't pay up, "it'll take more time". Money can be spent on Performance parts, which can be spent with one of two currencies: "$" and "Crew Credits". The second news is the performance. On PS4 and Xbox One, the game runs at 1080p at 30fps. They also claim that they're trying to remove as many loading times as fast as possible- the Videogamer.com preview stated that fast-traveling from Chicago to Detroit (The game takes place in 3 counties, and takes 90 minutes to travel in the fastest car) was much faster than switching characters in GTA V. Lastly is connectivity. The game requires an always online connection, even though the game can be played solo. The creative director states that it's "Not Good news, I'm afraid." Should the connection drop out, the player will be booted out from the game and "probably" sent to the title screen. The game will also feature peer-to-peer and will have host migration. Do they just NOT LEARN
Do they just NOT LEARN
apparently not, no.
The creative director promises that, while the game won't stop you from progressing if you don't pay up, "it'll take more time".
So its either progress at a normal rate if you pay or at a korean grind mmo level if you dont.
I WAS SO HOPEFUL FOR THIS [editline]8th April 2014[/editline] Congrats! You have unlocked driving from DALLAS to FORT WORTH
Damnit, I was looking forward to this. I guess this only tells me never to trust E3 other than what's coming out. Let's hope they stuck with the "Cross America without loading screens!" thing that I thought was the coolest part about it before.
Well fucking shit, yeah, you can't have a game with microtransactions without some sort of always-online DRM, else people would just find ways to cheat the currency/items. So yeah this is just shit awful news.
I was looking forward to this, but now Ubisoft can go shove it instead.
shit like this always kills my interest in a game
And here we have Ubisoft wasting a lot of potential again with their poor choices. Seriously, if Assassins Creed wasn't a commercial success as it is now, they would have been in deep crap economically seen due to their rubbish choices with their games. [editline]8th April 2014[/editline] Real shame too, it looked like it had so much potential, and could have really changed things around in the tired and dwindling racing genre.

I never understood why that guy takes off his shirt.
I don't understand why the hell these racing games have to have grinds/DLC/microtransactions. For instance, Driver: San Francisco didn't have much if not any of these and is one of my favorite games, most likely one of other people's favorites as well.(especially after most of the DRM was removed) Ubisoft.. how can you not see that games that do this sort of thing end up doing horrible on the market?
1080p is great, 30FPS doesn't matter, I can ignore microtransactions and UPlay, but always-on is awful. If they reverse that part of it then I'll most likely get it for Xbox.
Isn't this supposed to be F2P anyways?
Isn't this supposed to be F2P anyways?
F2P and P2W go hand-in-hand these days.
Honestly, who expected otherwise
So, aside from Always On Line, what is wrong about this? 1080p at 30fps is pretty much standard for consoles. Hell, the Xbone has to upsample to 1080, doesn't it? And it's not like almost every game in the past 5 years hasn't had micro transactions to skip in-game progress. Most of today's consolers are ADHD and want everything now, so might as well exploit that. The people who play the game for the game itself can level up normally.
I thought the game revolved around being able to seamlessly jump in and out of games, a bit like Total Driving Unleashed or whatever it was called.
Any time someone in a position like his says that, it means they're making a game where non-paying customers are deliberately bogged down in pointless grind (see: warframe)
It's a racing game, of course there is going to be grind. There's grind in Battlefield, or TF2 as well. Or you can skip the grind and pony up the cash.
Honestly, who expected otherwise
I did. After Assassins Creed IV i could see that Ubi was sorta getting back into the good track but then they just come up with this shit. Its still a rumor though.
It's a racing game, of course there is going to be grind. There's grind in Battlefield, or TF2 as well. Or you can skip the grind and pony up the cash.
Yes. Battlefield does have grind. It's also pretty awful and pointless. And TF2 doesn't have grind, it has an arbitrary minimum time to get all gameplay items (more than a month, it's fucking inexcusable)

If I want access to all the cars from the beginning (in an sp game) it should be as simple as using a console command or editing some files.

A grind is supposed to consist of repetitive tasks, but the grind I assume you're talking about in BF is the ENTIRE game, which isn't repetitive.
I can tell you where they can shove there always online DRM. Remove from anal cavity DLC: $14
Was there anyone even looking forward to this game? It sounds unforgettable as fudge
So it's safe to say the AAA market is legitimately soulless.

Just like nobody's first car is a Mustang Mach 1 in real life. You start small and with the basics, then move up the line as your skills improve.
