If it seems like advertisements for daily fantasy sites DraftKings and FanDuel have been everywhere over the past month it’s because they have, including on branded ESPN segments that have appeared on various programs, like in fantasy football columns or during halftime on Monday Night Football.
The load of those incessant ads will be lightened somewhat it was announced Tuesday, as ESPN said that in the wake of the first (but almost certainly not last) scandal involving the sites, those sponsored segments on various network shows would be removed.
Edit, at the alternate idea OvB had for those that want context:
A major scandal is erupting in the multibillion-dollar industry of fantasy sports, the online and unregulated business in which players assemble their fantasy teams with real athletes. On Monday, the two major fantasy companies were forced to release statements defending their businesses’ integrity after what amounted to allegations of insider trading, that employees were placing bets using information not generally available to the public.
The statements were released after an employee at DraftKings, one of the two major companies, admitted last week to inadvertently releasing data before the start of the third week of N.F.L. games. The employee, a midlevel content manager, won $350,000 at a rival site, FanDuel, that same week.
“It is absolutely akin to insider trading,” said Daniel Wallach, a sports and gambling lawyer at Becker & Poliakoff in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. “It gives that person a distinct edge in a contest.”
The episode has raised questions about who at daily fantasy companies has access to valuable data, such as which players a majority of the money is being bet on; how it is protected; and whether the industry can — or wants — to police itself.
The leagues have been swelling in popularity, their advertisements blanketing football game broadcasts.
What was the scandal with them? Article doesn't say.
Also according to the article they've now pulled their advertising entirely from ESPN (at least Draft Kings)

What scandal?
The scandal.
Employees used information not available to the public to place bets and win money.

Insider trading, so to speak.
Not surprised, I am sure most places have this happening they just got caught.
Good I'm so fucking tired of seeing these commercials during every gane.
Fuck this shit, it's literally just fucking gambling.
I get the feeling one of these companies is related to the Mafia somehow. If not the Mafia, at least white collar criminals.

And apparently the cancer is spreading further online, TechRax (that guy that pretty much has a fetish for destroying iPhones and sometimes other phones) in his latest video had been sponsored by FanDuel.
After all the ads started bombarding everything, I thought "there's no way there's not going to be some sort of eventual shitstorm".
By "cutting down" they mean only showing the commercial every OTHER 5 minutes now i'm sure.
I've heard these ads so many times on various Podcasts. Hopefully now I get more Crunchyroll ads because those are usually funny.
They will just be replaced by copious amounts of Buick commercials.

At least they don't make attempts to plaster their stuff over literally everything, usually just TV and print and maybe they have a spot in some AdSense rotation somewhere.

I don't really care about the content in tv ads themselves... the most annoying thing is the fact that they are allowed to repeat over and over and over, sometimes twice in the same damned break.
honestly these sites should be illegal, they only exist because they carved out a very oddly specific loophole in the gambling laws

If Congress can do it, why can't they?!
Is this really that big of a deal? That employees can make bets based on more detailed stats? Wouldn't this hurt the company itself more than anything?

Because the employees aren't the only ones with stakes??? Average Joes are using these websites for gambling.
Every time I see an ad for either of these sites, I will vote for Donald Trump. I swear to God, America! Don't make me do this!

Because the employees also control the data, so they could just rewrite the aggregate stats to make it look like they won and nobody would know the difference
Good. I fell asleep with the tv running the other night and had a nightmare where all EVERYone around me cared about was fantasy football, everywhere I went I couldn't escape it. I then woke up to a Fanduel infomercial.

This seems like the kind of business Trump would own. WhiteHouseDuel.trump.com : Let's Make America Bet Again!
THANK FUCK, the draft king commercials are agonizing to watch.
