they really needed to market it better,.
I feel bad for Nintendo. They had such a success with the original Wii, and suddenly they're going in the opposite direction. Really hope the NX changes things for them, Nintendo is still one of my favorite developers despite their failings.
Really sucks, the WiiU is great. Also WiiU pad gimmick >>>> Wii motion control gimmick
I find the Wii U gamepad pretty comfy.
I love Nintendo, but can we please get a controller thats actually comfy to use? You had one of the best controllers ever made with the gc controller, why did they feel the need to change it to a wagglestick, and later, just mash a second screen onto a controller? I think if they would just go back to basics with the actual console, that would be a great step towards a brighter future for them.
tbh the gamecube controller only felt good as a kid because it works for kid hands as an adult I realize that it's a really shitty device. It's missing a bumper, the joystick is forgettable, the ABXY buttons are positioned really, really stupidly, and the handles feel too small the joysticks having the 8 point shape however is a HUGE bonus, but it doesn't really forgive everything else. thet n64 controller is even worse. Who thought making a controller that needed three hands to use was a good idea.
I just hope the NX will be able to compete with the other consoles in terms of hardware so that it can enjoy the added benefit of multiplatform games.

The ABXY positions feel more natural and gives constant access to the A button no matter what other one you have to press. It's size seems perfect to me. The handles are a little larger than a PS controller's and just has the best grip out of any controller I have used. Not to mention it feels really solid. The D-Pad was terrible though. I don't know anyone who would complain about a new version of the controller. Make the D-Pad better, add a ZL, but please keep the dual-action shoulder buttons. Seriously, why don't more controllers have the dual-action triggers? They could be so useful if made a standard, like how Mario Sunshine locks your movement when you click the right trigger in all the way.
I wish I could grow a third arm out of my chest to feel what holding an N64 controller would be like with three hands. Bet it feels really good.
I wish I could grow a third arm out of my chest to feel what holding an N64 controller would be like with three hands. Bet it feels really good.
...Just like Zaphod in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. My 3DS feels small for my finger movements, even slippery because of its smooth material compared to my oldest bro's 3DS XL. That fuzz on his makes it easy for precision.
they really needed to market it better,.
They simply had to release few of the later games as launch titles and it would have exploded, now everybody just waits for it to die.
I'd rather pay a little more or swap out xxxx games the Wii U comes with for a Wii U gamepad.
Shoulda named it the Wiiaboo
as an adult I realize that it's a really shitty device. It's missing a bumper, the joystick is forgettable, the ABXY buttons are positioned really, really stupidly, and the handles feel too small
it's my favorite controller overall, the dualshock is way too small for my hands and has no good grip, 360 one is good but kinda small the original fat xbox 1 controller was the shit, loved that thing, perfect size
Really sucks, the WiiU is great. Also WiiU pad gimmick >>>> Wii motion control gimmick
The real problem is the gamepad's gimmick isn't really being put to its full potential, not even Nintendo's really doing much with it, seems like the gamepad is at its best when it's being used for off TV play.
Not to mention that the console refuses to run without it being on, even on games that don't need it. My brother used to be able to get a nice setup with Netflix that has the info on the controller and video on the screen but they seemed to have removed that option or we just can't find it. Now you constantly have the video playing on both screens at once. Even in SSB4, why do we need to have the gamepad on if it only shows info that is already on screen? I love the kind of asymmetrical gameplay the controller can offer but having it required to be on for the console's general function is very annoying.
Have you ever actually used it? You don't need three hands to use it, because you only ever need to hold the right handle and either the middle handle or the left handle, depending on whether the game uses the analog stick or the d-pad.
I did, as a kid, and what do you know, I thought the idea was shit they built their games around either the dpad or stick, but it was completely redundant. If you want to use it for other things you're pretty SoL. The concept of having either separately is so pointless. Make something that actually allows you to use either with 1 thumb and 1 handle, not 2 arbitrary handles. (of course, that's what they eventually did)
Have you ever actually used it? You don't need three hands to use it, because you only ever need to hold the right handle and either the middle handle or the left handle, depending on whether the game uses the analog stick or the d-pad.
Guess what. Sony solved that issue by placing the thumbstick next to your thumb rather than dedicating an entire handle to it. I swear the people who defend the N64 controller are ridiculous. "It's fine, one third of the controller is completely useless in every game, and which third is useless depends on the game. It's a good design".
I just hope the NX will be able to compete with the other consoles in terms of hardware so that it can enjoy the added benefit of multiplatform games.
It won't. Nintendo hasn't done a console with hardware comparable with it's competition ever since the Gamecube.
The whole development of the WiiU was a mess all the way from marketing to hardware, its a wonder it turned out as well as it did.

To be fair, if a game needed both of them than it would be a bit poorly designed for the hardware. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I assume that having the joystick on another handle could have been to ease into the concept since that was new to controllers, no?
Doom 64's default scheme required use of all 3 IIRC.
It won't. Nintendo hasn't done a console with hardware comparable with it's competition ever since the Gamecube.
Probably one of the reasons that Nintendo consoles don't sell well at the minute. The Wii sold well because of the whole motion control novelty and the affordable price, but I don't know how they can follow that up. They're selling under-powered hardware in the hope that people will buy them to play the next installment of Mario/Zelda/Pokemon/SmashBros/Metroid etc.
Mario/Zelda/Pokemon/SmashBros/Metroid etc.
Metroid isn't that lucky.
To be fair, if a game needed both of them than it would be a bit poorly designed for the hardware. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I assume that having the joystick on another handle could have been to ease into the concept since that was new to controllers, no?
Or Nintendo could have just designed a decent controller to begin with.
Or Nintendo could have just designed a decent controller to begin with.
They could have made the design standard first, yes. But what I was getting at is that if you're making a game on hardware with a certain kind of controller you work with it. You wouldn't map Movement to a D-Pad and Look on the left control stick on a modern controller in the same way you wouldn't make a game use all three handles on an N64 controller.
People need to stop pretending that the only reason the Wii U failed was because it was badly marketed. Ask anyone who plays video games and isnt a Nintendo fan why they didn't get one and they'll tell you that there just aren't enough games, especially not enough good ones. Part of this is Nintendo's complete inability to attract 3rd parties to their outdated hardware and gimmicky input methods. Nintendo need to release something that can either compete with the PS4 & xbone or change the game in a meaningful way, like the Wii did. Hopefully the NX can do both, but I doubt it.
the wii u has more than double the number of exclusive titles that the PS4 has. soooo...
the wii u has more than double the number of exclusive titles that the PS4 has. soooo...
Doesn't matter if they're mediocre. Nintendo have a habit of making games that only appeal to people who are already fans; they may like them but nobody else is gonna give a flying fuck. It also doesn't have FIFA or CoD.
