:alien:REMEMBER: TAKE EVERYTHING YOU READ WITH A GRAIN OF SALT. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, MAKE YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS, BUT THERE'S NO HARM IN KEEPING YOUR MIND OPEN:alien: official thread music I've been listen to a lot of Mysterious Universe recently and thus have gotten pretty into paranormal stuff. i saw a few people posting about how they liked browsing /x/ and thought there might be enough interest here to warrant a thread. basically, anything aliens, cryptid, spiritual, or metaphysical this will probably be the place to talk it up. sorry about the crap OP i am not very good at making them. a preemptive fuck off with any atlantean power crystal or other new age hippy woo bullshit, go elevate your vibrations somewhere else i have become very interested in anything to do with the mysteries of the mind, or more specifically the idea that the brain is a receiver or filter of consciousness and not generated by the brain. of course, we don't really have any real evidence either way, although materialist science dictates that it must be generated. however, the consciousness being generated by the brain leaves several things that seem inadequately explained. for instance recent research has found that psilocybin, the psychedelic drug found in magic mushrooms, actually decreases brain activity. according to the study, the more intense the trip was reported by the subjects, the lower the brain activity. to me, this seems contrary to what i would think would happen when under the influence of that drug especially with my own personal experience. my opinion is that the drug breaks down the filters our brain, allowing our mind to experience reality without the preprocessing that normally happens before we experience it. what this means exactly for people who have profound spiritual experiences while under it, i am not sure.
I love anything that has to do with Aliens/UFO sightings/ET conspiracies/etc even though I don't believe them. It's good fun. I mean I don't think we're alone in the universe, but I don't think there's a joint Alien/US underground base in New Mexico. :xfiles: [editline]2nd November 2015[/editline] Also Antarctic Nazis. [editline]2nd November 2015[/editline] Also, isn't there a "Generally creepy stuff/creepy pasta" thread somewhere? That was always full of great stuff about bigfoots and numbers stations and shit. Can't for the life of me find it though. (creepy)

As an avid believer of the scientific theory it's hard for me personally to take in a lot of the paranormal as more than a grain of salt. It's fun to think about and ponder the truth behind it all, but generally the audience and "experts" surrounding these topics aren't the kind of people known to think logically, ya dig?
-snip-
Anyone ever have an unexplained experience from their childhood? I once saw a dark oddly shaped figure who touched my back with inhuman hands the night before second grade started. Was able to move and talk and stuff so don't think it was sleep paralysis. Have had sleep paralysis before and it was completely different.

So I'm a fan of the paranormal and such from a "fun" standpoint- like it all makes for a good time wondering about it and reading about it and what-if'ing and all that. Got a bit of a library on it, I do. Love me some X-Files also. So just wanted to pop in an recommend the Last Podcast on the Left, which is a weekly podcast where some blokes have a laugh discussing paranormal, extraterrestrial, and weird topic. It's pretty fucking hilarious and if you're into the paranormal it's an informative and entertaining time.
Personally, I'm fascinated by all of the alienXusgovernment conspiracy theories out there and I actually pour a lot of time into looking into different ones as a sort of hobby. I know it's not real, but suspension of disbelief is fun. The one that's captured my interest now (and actually has 'evidence' to back it up) is the existence of a joint space program that acts as sort of a local police force in the solar system with technology to easily navigate the solar system. The purpose of such a program differs with different versions of the rumors. Some can be as simple as a deterrence against launching orbital weapons, but can be as extreme as a police force to keep order in a busy solar system that sees frequents comings and goings of alien species as well as the existence of several ET corporation-owned stations. The program is called Solar Warden.
I started a similar thread a long time ago, but no one responded to it :v: Here's to hoping this one takes off
Around Middleschool I was really really into ghost and shit like that, I remember going to Ghost Study almost daily. I'm surprised this is still up. Looking back I can't believe I fell for some of these lol
I used to watch Mystery Hunters like everyday as a kid. Loved all the paranormal folklore that some people apparently still believe. One thing I wanted to bring up was déjà vu. Like, most people get it at some point. But for me, it's always intense and makes me feel like something is about to happen. Most of the recent bouts of it are things I feel I've seen in dreams before, just slightly different.

So, who here enjoys conspiracy theories?
I probably bet the paranormal and that sorts of stuff is bullshit but damn is it interesting.
So, who here enjoys conspiracy theories?
i enjoy some of them, stuff about secret programs and experiments, not stuff like "9/11 was caused by mini nukes" and "this school shooting was done by actors". give me shit like the montauk conspiracy and the several secret space programs any day of the week

Hard core. Come back with your findings.
So, who here enjoys conspiracy theories?
I don't. The idea people conspire to gain power isn't far fetched for me. However, beyond that, it gets silly. I do believe the MAfia did run America for some time. Also I do believe Masons and various lodges did for a while too. If I can find the proof, Ill post it. something intriguing happened to me yesterday, right after making this thread. jets fly over my house all the time due to the military/air base and airport nearby, but something was different about it. i could hear them hanging around, as though they were circling. i went out to check it out then caught a glimpse of what appeared to be two jets through the trees, which they disappeared behind. a little bit strange but nothing really unheard of. i looked out to the hill i can see from the deck of my house, and i saw a small but bright white light on what looked like a translucent sphere floating at a pretty high speed up from behind the hill. it looked like it was moving slowly yet with the distances involved it would have to have been keeping a pretty high pace. it rose into the clouds above and disappeared. i'm thinking it might have been a flare or something like that that someone shot up, because it didn't look like any plane or helicopter i have seen. i'm considering that since it happened so soon after i posted this thread its just my mind playing tricks on me, but it looked so real at the time. [editline]3rd November 2015[/editline] i'm pretty sure it wasn't anything odd but its still technically a UFO since i have no idea what it actually was.
I remember this youtube video I listened to, I think it was about an hour or two long clip from CoastToCoast radio talking to this author of a book about strange disappearance. Think was it: It's super erie, and I don't know what to make about it. A fun thing to have on in the background if you got 2 and a half hours to kill. You know, the guys that got the whiteboards of pictures and files with strings attaching them all, and boxes and boxes of documents and pictures. One thing's for certain, your life would never be boring.

Most of those topics labeled as scientific "taboos" are just too vague or unprovable to be considered seriously. There is a book called "The Demon haunted world" or something that gives a really good insight into how science and the scientific method work.
Actually there is no such thing as a taboo in science, you know. Most of those topics labeled as scientific "taboos" are just too vague or unprovable to be considered seriously. There is a book called "The Demon haunted world" or something that gives a really good insight into how science and the scientific method work.
It's a popular book by Carl Sagan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Demon-Haunted_World I haven't read it yet, but I hear it's great. The reason why things like bigfoot and other pseudo-scientific creature is "taboo" is because they're generally so far fetched as to not adhere to any standing science. The very definition of pseudo-science states why they're not taken very credibly:
Pseudoscience is often characterized by the following: a use of vague, contradictory, exaggerated or unprovable claims; an over-reliance on confirmation rather than rigorous attempts at refutation; a lack of openness to evaluation by other experts in the field; and a general absence of systematic practices when rationally developing theories
UFO videos are always blurry, Sasquatch is never caught, Ghost communication is extremely vague , and all of them generally cannot be retested. Yet, the guys that hunt things like Sasquatch still send in hair samples and DNA samples to scientists, and the scientists comply with the work. Usually finding it's from a dog or something else. If someone brought in a dead sasquatch to the bio lab of any university, the scientific community would explode with excitement. Because you would be proving the existence of a highly unlikely, (therefore highly endangered) creature. The ghost hunters with their Sony sound recorders and flashing boxes and stuff just looks all like bullshit, though. However, conventional science has given us hypothesis on why and how we feel ghostly presence or hauntings, or see figures in the dark, or hear dead loved ones, etc. If you're going to seriously research ghosts, you have to be open to the fact that the cause is likely not going to be of paranormal origins.
Hey! I've been an MU Plus member for 5 years :D
I'd like to add I love the open-minded skeptic mindset they have on the show. They know what sounds like absolute garbage and will report it in a mocking way for the fun stories, while other podcasts seem to take every paranormal and new-age article as fact because who "would lie about something so profound?!" The podcast used to be purely long sections of classic mysteries, but recently it's been moving towards reporting on science/tech news and sometimes funny web content on top of their paranormal reports. A lot of people criticized them for moving away from being a purely paranormal podcast but I personally love it, it's a lot more informative and entertaining. They'd have eventually run out of paranormal events to report on anyway. I'll share some of my favourite paranormal mysteries and mysteries to this thread later if I can remember some people might not have heard of.
what i wish there was more scientific research into are experiences that are subjective to humans. like, for instance, the nature of intuition or gut feelings. that someone can seemingly access information they shouldn't know. the navy actually recently started a study on intuition and how it can be used by their sailors and marines. we probably won't see many results from it since it is a military project but i find that it is interesting there is government interest in something like it [editline]3rd November 2015[/editline]
I'd like to add I love the open-minded skeptic mindset they have on the show.
