• Issues with computer freeze and crash

Hey guys. Recently I've been having an issue with my computer. The issue is that the computer will freeze randomly and require a hard reset to be able to be used again. If I'm listening to audio at the time of the crash the audio will stop playing and I will be able to move my cursor for a few seconds before the entire computer locks up. My specs are as follows. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If any more info is required just let me know and I'll provide it. Intel i5-3570K Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H Sapphire HD 6950 2GB 16GB Mushkin 1600MHz DDR3 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda HDD 700W OCZ GameXstream power supply
Have you checked your temperatures to rule out an overheating issue?
Have you checked your temperatures to rule out an overheating issue?
Yup I have. I think I've actually resolved the issue, although I have no idea how it works. I swapped my HDMI cord with my DVI cord because I thought the crashes might be related to the sound passthrough on my HD 6950. No more crashes after getting rid of the HDMI cord. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well it's back. I've done some tests to rule out certain hardware failures. I removed the GPU and ran off of the integrated HD 4000 and it still occurred, and I ran memtest which passed so the RAM sticks are fine. I think that really just leaves the CPU + Mobo and the hard drive. I'm going to run seatools and see what it says. I'll also borrow the HDD from my downstairs PC and see if that remedies the issue. If it doesn't then I'll know it's some sort of CPU/Mobo issue, and I'll go on from there. I'll update this post accordingly once I've advanced. Edit: Well memtest passes and so does seatools so that leaves The CPU and mobo, or a software issue. I think I might know what it is, I'll update after some long term uptime in my current configuration.
Hey, stumbled upon this post googling my issue. Did you solve the problem? I have the same issue with a similar setup. Intel i5-3570K Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H MSI HD 6950 2GB Corsair Vengeance Low profile arctic white 8GB Corsair F120 SSD System just freezes up at random, sometimes it could be after 1 hour, sometimes it could be after 24 hours. System logs show no errors. Memtest showed no issues, GPU and CPU stress tests of several hours didn't replicate the issue. I even tried running of an HDD but still froze. So if you managed to solve it, please let me know how. Thanks.
So after a lot of research and trial and error, I figured out what the problem was, my soundblaster PCI sound card. The card works fine, but the motherboard seems to have poor compatability with PCI cards. I've removed the card over a week ago and I have not crashed once since. In it's place I put a creative PCI-E soundcard that caused no problems :). Hopefully other people can save a lot of time by removing the add-on card straight away.
