Bob Garon meets with Republican presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney during a campaign stop at the Chez Vachon Restaurant , Monday, Dec. 12, 2011 in Manchester, N.H. (AP Photo/Jim Cole)
Manchester, N.H. • When Mitt Romney sat down next to a patron wearing a Vietnam veteran’s cap, Romney wanted to ask him about his military service. But 63-year-old Bob Garon wanted to talk about gays in the military — because he is a gay veteran.Garon was sitting in a booth across from his husband, Bob Lemire, at Chez Vachon, a must-stop diner for politicians looking for votes in the New Hampshire primary.Garon and Lemire eat there nearly every morning. The owners call them “The Bobs.”Surrounded by a crush of TV cameras, Romney asked Garon about his tour in Vietnam. But Garon asked if Romney would support efforts to repeal the New Hampshire law that legalized gay marriage in the state and allowed him and Lemire to marry.Romney said he supported the repeal because marriage is between a man and a woman.“OK, that means if you were in the White House, you would not support any form of legislation that would change that so a serviceman would be entitled to any benefits like a man and a woman?” Garon asked. “A veteran and a spouse would not be entitled to any burial benefits, or medical benefits, or anything that the serviceman has devoted his time and effort to his country, and you just don’t support equality in terms of same-sex marriage?”When a veteran dies, his or her spouse is often entitled to certain benefits, including possibly being interred next to the veteran in a military cemetery.“I believe that marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman,” Romney responded. “The Defense of Marriage Act that exists in Washington today defines benefits, whether for veterans or non-veterans as between married spouses and for me that’s a man and a woman. We apparently disagree on that.”An aide tried to remove Romney from the situation, claiming the candidate had an interview with Fox News Channel.[/release]
Can we have someone who isn't an idiot be president for once?
lol that's a good one why would we want a rational president? you dont make any sense ROMNEY 2012
Can we have someone who isn't an idiot be president for once?
corporations don't pay smart people to be able to dictate what they do
I like how the "Marriage is only acceptable between man and a woman" people always piss their pants when someone points out a flaw in their thinking, because they can't make a counter argument.
This wasn't as cringe-worthy as Bachmann's "gays have equality, they can marry if they want, just not someone of the same sex"
This wasn't as cringe-worthy as Bachmann's "gays have equality, they can marry if they want, just not someone of the same sex"
The only thing keeping me from actually wanting to harm these people is the fact that they're destroying any chance the Repubs had at getting elected.
I love how simple American politics is sometimes. It's like there is a good party and a bad party, it would make voting so much easier over here. We just have a bunch of bad parties.
This wasn't as cringe-worthy as Bachmann's "gays have equality, they can marry if they want, just not someone of the same sex"
Wait what?
I do request a source on this because this is just too hilarious to be her literal words.
I don't care if Gays marry. But it's all this religious bullshit that's made it illegal in 44 states. That's 1300 or so rights that gays do not have access to that married couples do.
Can't there be a best of both worlds solution? Like say, The same thing as marriage, but call it something else? That way the Bible clutchers don't have their sanctity of marriage tarnished, and homosexuals have access to all the rights that a straight person does? It's not a perfect solution, but come on, that's fucking doable
Then maybe by the time our tech-savvy generation comes into power, we can do without that and just say. Marriage, for all people
Wow so if you're not married you're screwed.
Fuck you Romney you homophobic cocksucker
i'm glad for him, its so dumb you can kill a guy but you're not aloud to love one
Can we have someone who isn't an idiot be president for once?
My great-grandmother used to say that we'd be better off just putting them all in a bag and shaking the shit out of it, and which-ever one fell out first was president. Considering the risk of physical injury I'm all for it. :v:
