Lareece Butler, 26, suffered only bruises, a broken leg and concussion when she slammed into the ground, entangled in her chute. The parachute was attached to the plane by a static line and was supposed to open after she leapt from the aircraft. But instead, Miss Butler became caught up in the lines, spiralling to Earth as her terrified boyfriend looked helplessly on. Doctors said her survival was "nothing but divine intervention, nothing short of a miracle". She is in a stable but serious condition in hospital following the incident in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Joos Vos, the manager of the EP Skydiving Club, said: "She was trained in all facets she needed to enjoy and perform a safe static line jump. "Lareece exited the aircraft at 3,000ft (about 1,000m) performing a static line jump in an unstable body position which resulted in an entanglement of the main parachute with her harness." Family members told South African media Miss Butler was pushed out of the aircraft after refusing to jump - a claim rejected by the club. Mr Vos said Miss Butler, who was an inexperienced skydiver, did not release her emergency parachute as she had been trained to do. An investigation has been launched.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesna_Vulovic She fell more than 30,000 feet higher out of a fucking exploding plane. But she did get way more injured than that woman did. Vulovic did make a full recovery though.
I fell off my chair when I read this.
I fell off my chair when I read this.
You're a dumbass
I guess she just landed right.
I hate when they say survival is "nothing short of a miracle"
Doctors said her survival was "nothing but divine intervention, nothing short of a miracle".
Well I guess you can say the force was with her. :smug:
You're a dumbass
: ( I tried
I've heard about theses kind of things, there are factors such as how relaxed your muscles are and how your positioned that determine weither you'll survive falls that high. Fascinating, anywho.
I guess she just landed right.
Her boobs broke the fall. They were bigger before... ...MUCH bigger...
Her boobs broke the fall. They were bigger before... ...MUCH bigger...
We need a before/after picture to proof that.
This has happened many times before. The titles are always misleading, I'm still waiting for the day when somebody somehow survives a fall with no parachute whatsoever. You never know, it might happen.
Lucky her, she clearly has another purpose this life.
Peggy Hill
I honestly thought the exact same thing as I read the thread title.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesna_Vulovic She fell more than 30,000 feet higher out of a fucking exploding plane. Vulovic did make a full recovery though.
Either both these women didn't reach terminal velocity somehow or they hit the ground at such an angle that the full possible impact was not exerted. Reality just doesn't fucking make sense sometimes...
This happened the week before christmas at the airfield i jump from Dumbass Durham university girl (oxford reject) spiralled down instead of dumping her main. Her own fault.
They didn't believe in reality, and so it didn't effect them.
"Woman Survives 3,000ft..." A 3,000ft fall maybe? makes me think of that Chinese guy who fell out his apartment window twi.. "Parachute fall" A parachute? Cheapie.
I guess she rolled a 20 to dodge and blocked the ground.
Wasn't there a paratrooper in WWII who survived his parachute failing by falling through a tree on the way down? I hate to think what'd be going through your mind as you fell though.
