Just a week before Ash vs Evil Dead invades the San Diego Comic-Con, Starz has released the first image of the man himself, Ashley J. Williams (Bruce Campbell) as he renews his fight against the Deadites after twenty years.
Also seen in the image are Ash’s new companions, both of whom work with him at Value Stop. On the left side of the picture is Pablo Simon Bolivar (Ray Santiago), an “idealistic immigrant becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick.” On the other side of Ash is Kelly Maxwell (Dana DeLorenzo), “a moody wild child trying to outrun her past.”
For the revival of the franchise, Campbell has been reunited with original Evil Dead filmmakers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert. Campbell will also share the screen once again with Lucy Lawless (Xena: Warrior Princess), who will portray the enigmatic woman named Ruby.
“It’s The Searchers with carnage and mayhem,” said Campbell, while describing his role in the series. “I’m relegated a little bit into the John Wayne mode these days with my team—the young, virile, evil fighters who will pair up with Ash and take on this nemesis: this never ending, ever evolving nemesis.”
Raimi added that the return of the Deadites is pretty much Ash’s fault. “He’s the only one stupid enough to really tamper with those spirits,” said Raimi. “And he does. But he’s also still a really good monster fighter. So, he’s also going to be kicking some deadite buttocks, if you’ll pardon the French.”
Groovy...
He still looks fairly young considering he's 57.
I'm going into this with pretty subdued expectations. I loved the original Evil Dead movies big time, thought the remake was fun (if a bit of a departure from the tone), and still think that Campbell is a very entertaining actor. I don't need this to blow my mind. As long as it's a fun and pointlessly violent affair that gives Campbell a shot at playing up his schtick, I'll probably enjoy it.
so what does this mean for the 2012 evil dead? i really really liked that one, i wanna see where it goes. i know they said they'd do this movie and the sequel to the other one as well

RIP S-Mart?
I'm excited for this, I loved the Evil Dead movies and can't wait.
I don't care if this turns into Hercules campiness, I loved that shit back in the day.
Also there needs to be Ted Rami.

The majority of the creative team from the original trilogy are coming back, with Raimi directing the first episode.
It's gonna be pretty good.
Although I would much prefer a storyline that has Ash on his own taking on the deadites again, this has been given every chance in the world to succeed it seems, so I'm going to let myself get a little bit hype. Feels like I've gone back in time lately, so many childhood things coming back to life.

While that works in a movie, this is a whole TV show we're talking about here.
As much as I absolutely adore Bruce Campbell (I fucking celebrate the man's birthday and have multiple action figures with his likeness), we need other characters to add more depth to the story, and keep it interesting.

He dyed his hair black/dark brown, and other than that there's probably not much makeup on him at all.
Well, other than blood.

They say that blood is good for the skin

There's always makeup in movies. Always.
I'd never seen Evil Dead until I binged the trilogy last night. Now I find out they're making another one. Nice.
Also I thought they'd replaced Bruce with Pierce Brosnan at first glance of the photo.

Keep in mind this isn't a movie, it's a TV show.
Order Starz when you get the chance. God knows this is the only reason I have left to watch TV.
