There will be two routes here: A Light-Hearted one and Not So light-hearted, depends what you are more accustomed to finding easier to enjoy.
I will not include PROGRESSIVE music because as you know, the term is a bit vague and it's probably the most confusing type of music that is concievable.
Preferably use headphones as speakers will deliver you less than you would normally get.
Be unique with your tastes, you do not have to like everything posted here, it's solely to see the spectrums that I see concerning "light-hearted" music and "rough" music. If you hate something, it's totally understandable... you are bound to get uncomfortable with at least some of the genres here
Now there are probably hundreds more genres of music than what I have included here, such as viking... pirate... tribal... caveman... aboriginal... but those aren't taken too seriously in the music world at the moment. As for drum n bass and other electronic styles as a whole... that's far too vague as a genre for it to be posted here.
Hope you enjoyed the experience.
I tried level 7 of the second tier, I did not have the balls :ohdear:
I'm on level 2 of the first tier atm, much more unterrifying

People who find the second tier easy, may not find the first that easy. Remember that :smug:
This is not really a challenge.
This is not really a challenge.
Correct. But I don't know what else to call it.
[editline]3rd June 2011[/editline]
I tried to make it so that "intensity" of light-heartedness and the other one increases at each stage. That's all.
Great idea for a thread. I'm on it bro
Listening to Hardcore Hip Hop next to something like Avant-Garde Jazz is really weird, I wouldn't mind listening to most of these genres but I don't think I'll ever be in the mood to listen to two vastly different genres right after each other.

True.
Maybe progress through the levels by listening to only one you feel most comfortable with. Get me?
[editline]3rd June 2011[/editline]
or appropriate.
I didn't really like any of that... :smith:
I guess 'exploring' (or however you call it) isn't really my thing.
Althoug I have to say, Microsound was a bit... creepy, but intriguing as well.

I'm gonna take this challenge!
When I get home and can play it from speakers.
Should I ignore the video, or does it make any difference? (FYI, a cool video can help me get through a shitty song.)
Completed the first section no problem. Some of that is really nice.
Almost completed the second section. I just can't like Noise.
This is such bullshit.
Enjoying many types of music does NOT make you a better person, understanding and accepting others tastes does. The trick in completing a "challenge" like this is basically to have zero opinions on music, which I see as ignorance rather than open-mindedness. So no, I will not listen to your minimalistic drone-folk or post-noisecore and pretend to enjoy it, I will listen to the music I love, the music that makes me feel good. If that is what you like though, no problem. I just don't want to be implied a fool for knowing what I like.

He just wanted to show you some music, no need to get worked up about it.
He just wanted to show you some music, no need to get worked up about it.
No, that's not what he wants at all. he wants to shove in our faces the fact that he'll listen to fucking anything and brainwash himself into liking it just to he can be smug about it
No, that's not what he wants at all. he wants to shove in our faces the fact that he'll listen to fucking anything and brainwash himself into liking it just to he can be smug about it
Well, he is definitely not showing it into my face.
Plus I found a few new genres that I need to get into thanks to this thread.

I agree with you, particularly the first sentence. I realize I need to listen to new stuff, which is why I'm going to listen to as much of both lists as I enjoy. I don't disparage anyone's musical tastes, and I'm hoping this exercise will broaden mine.
which one do i do first the light headed one or the other?

Having a bigger taste is ignorance?
No.

Stop whining, this is just a thread showing both sides of the spectrum. I'm no master, I didn't post a smug ONCE in the OP which meant I was being serious. :smug:

Nothing wrong with trying new music to see if you enjoy it, making a competition out of it is what I despise. If I were to choose between a world were people would listen to literally all sorts of music and a world were a person normally would listen to a much smaller spectrum of music but really enjoy it, I would choose the latter without a second of doubt

I have literally no problem with differing tastes, it just seems to me that you encourage people to broaden theirs with force just because.
so which one do i do first? i dont know what you mean by "lightheaded" (in this term)
I have literally no problem with differing tastes, it just seems to me that you encourage people to broaden theirs with force just because.
If it seems like I'm being forceful, then I'm sorry. If you think I think everyone SHOULD like "Dream Pop" and Noise music, then you are mistaken.
This thread is not simply what people should like, it's just a bunch of styles that I think are in a spectrum of light hearted and not.
so which one do i do first? i dont know what you mean by "lightheaded" (in this term)
Lightheaded means you feel dizzy, I didn't post that word.
I enjoyed all of it but I can't listen to all of them on a regular basis.

Then why did you post is as a "challenge", something you should feel good about yourself for completing?
And why did you make that thread way back where you dared people to post something you wouldn't enjoy in a poorly masked attempt to be smug about liking any sound at all that is played in your ears?
Lightheaded means you feel dizzy, I didn't post that word.
I can't even listen to the first song. It's just so... Beatles.

Did you like anything else in Level One or do you think I should extend it somehow?

I have to agree actually. Although when you think about it, it's not that unconventional, they used it in the Millenium Dome (when it was still called that) :v:
His music is a bit crazy, but intriguing.
