The Akayz Challenge of Enjoying Genres!

[AK'z]

There will be two routes here: A Light-Hearted one and Not So light-hearted, depends what you are more accustomed to finding easier to enjoy.

I will not include PROGRESSIVE music because as you know, the term is a bit vague and it's probably the most confusing type of music that is concievable.

[B]Preferably use headphones as speakers will deliver you less than you would normally get.[/B]

[h2]Be unique with your tastes, you do not have to like everything posted here, it's solely to see the spectrums that I see concerning "light-hearted" music and "rough" music. If you hate something, it's totally understandable... you are bound to get uncomfortable with at least some of the genres here[/h2]

Now there are probably hundreds more genres of music than what I have included here, such as viking... pirate... tribal... caveman... aboriginal... but those aren't taken too seriously in the music world at the moment. As for drum n bass and other electronic styles as a whole... that's far too vague as a genre for it to be posted here.

Listening to Hardcore Hip Hop next to something like Avant-Garde Jazz is really weird, I wouldn't mind listening to most of these genres but I don't think I'll ever be in the mood to listen to two vastly different genres right after each other.

Enjoying many types of music does NOT make you a better person, understanding and accepting others tastes does. The trick in completing a "challenge" like this is basically to have zero opinions on music, which I see as ignorance rather than open-mindedness. So no, I will not listen to your minimalistic drone-folk or post-noisecore and pretend to enjoy it, I will listen to the music I love, the music that makes me feel good. If that [i]is[/i] what you like though, no problem. I just don't want to be implied a fool for knowing what I like.

I agree with you, particularly the first sentence. I realize I need to listen to new stuff, which is why I'm going to listen to as much of both lists as I enjoy. I don't disparage anyone's musical tastes, and I'm hoping this exercise will broaden mine.

Nothing wrong with trying new music to see if you enjoy it, making a competition out of it is what I despise. If I were to choose between a world were people would listen to literally all sorts of music and a world were a person normally would listen to a much smaller spectrum of music but really enjoy it, I would choose the latter without a second of doubt
