I was hoping I'd be able to work out what to get myself, but it turns out computers aren't that simple.
System Details:
Windows Vista Home Premium (32 bit)
2x1GB RAM DDR2 PC2-6400
2.67 GHz Intel Core2 Duo
SAMSUNG HD103SJ 1TB HDD
"WDC WD1600AAJS-00PSA0" HDD
GeForce 8300 GS
Native Monitor Resolution: 1440 x 900
Budget of around £300, lower if possible.
I'm looking to upgrade my RAM and my graphics card (from a GeForce 8300 GS) to something more suitable for gaming on, since currently I can't run anything graphically intensive or with high settings.
I did a bit of research on RAM and it appears that on my current operating system usable RAM caps out at 3GB or so regardless of how much I have installed, so I'd also like advice on whether or not to upgrade to 64 bit Win7 (which would add a substantial cost, but presumably comes with other advantages. The Windows update function on my copy of Vista has been broken for a while.)
As for a graphics card, I was looking at a RADEON HD 6850. Am I making a mistake? I'd like something capable of running DX11 (I think), but I'm honestly confused by the names and specifications of graphic cards. Can it run a dual-monitor setup?
Current Location is France, although I prefer to order from UK retailers where possible.
Games I play?
STALKER Series
DOW 2
TF2 (and source games in general)
Apologies if I've screwed up anywhere, most of the system information at the top is copy-pasted from system summary tools.
I run a dual-monitor setup on a HD4650 what is an oooold card.
DDR2 RAM costs a lot now. See if you can get it used or cheaper than in shops maybe? But nothing is wrong from buying it new ofc.
Some people in FP give out Win7 Pro 64bit keys, (I am looking at Brt. )

Also your CPU is old and you might need a new PSU.

Oh, sorry for the slight OT, but could you please elaborate?
Well, one guy in FP shares keys as he has a fuckton of them.
Brt5470, an awesome guy.
