Hi, right well I want to plug in my external hard drive to play some perfectly legal videos, I have them on a friends external and I can plug it in and play them fine, but when I plug mine in it doesn't even recognize it, why would this be? Mine is a seagate and I am not sure what his is but on the front is says WD in the logo, the only difference is, is that his runs from power through the USB but mine has to plug into the wall and the xbox. Please help.
Maybe you have different File Systems. Like FAT32 or NTFS. if you google for it seems like the Xbox doesn't support NTFS. So reformat your drive to fat32. Make sure you make a backup of the files because they will be gone if you reformat. Good Luck. Edit: Only downsize of FAT32 is that is doesn't support files bigger than 4GB, If you put files bigger than 4GB. Windows will tell you the disk is full but it sure isn't. So make sure the movies are < 4GB.
