Hello,
I am looking to upgrade my ASUS CM 1730 Desktop. I have around $180 at my disposal to buy a new GPU and a new power supply. Thus, I am trying to get the highest quality product for as cheaply as possible.
Since I am on a rather tight budget, I am looking to exploit holiday deals as they appear, and whatever TechBargains can offer me for a discount.
I am looking for products in the AMD family, but I have been told from several customer support agents that I can technically use any modern graphics card provided my power supply can support it. My power supply is supposed to be 500 W, but I have also been notified it is only around 250 W or so, which constitutes the need to replace that component with an upgrade as well.

Games which I am looking to play:
-Chivalry: Medieval Warfare
-The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat
-Planetary Annihilation
-Red Orchestra 2: Rising Storm
-Payday 2
-Sid Meier's Civilization V
-EVE Online
-War Thunder
I am currently a citizen of the United States in Central Massachusetts.
Do keep in mind several things;
I am very, very new to this sort of thing. If you need any further information, let me know and I will provide it. I also know my budget might be a tad unrealistic; I am planning to make it stretch for all its worth, and thus I am keeping a close eye on major parts dealers for any potential discounts. To that end, I really just want a GPU that can run most of the above games on high at a solid 60 frames/second or more, and a power supply that can adequately provide for it. The only other thing I could possibly want is a little money left over for throwing at the holiday steam sale, but being able to run anything decently is top on my priority list.
Thanks a ton in advance for any help and advice.
you're going to need to save more if you want to get a good gpu and power supply if its only 250 watt
Yeah, you should really need to replace that power supply. Corsair do a nice modular 500w PSU for pretty cheap.
As for the GPU, I think possible some kind of 7770/R7 260X would go well with your system, I know it'll deal with all of those games quite well, whether it plays well with the processor is beyond me though.
This is probably the best you'll get for that price: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Om8x
Thank you for all of your responses.

Just a question, how did you get the $20 mail in rebate?
What do you mean, how did I get it?
Open up your PC case and look for a brand name and wattage on the PSU itself.
For all we know there might be a quality Cooler master 500W PSU in there.
