Source
(Reuters) - The founder of a fundamentalist church known for picketing military funerals and political events with anti-gay signs was excommunicated last year and is near death in a Kansas hospital, his son said on social media on Sunday. The younger Phelps, one of several members of the family to have parted ways with the church, also said his father was excommunicated by his own church last August, but did not say for what reason. "I'm not sure how I feel about this," he said. "Terribly ironic that his devotion to his god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made."
I'm usually not the kind of guy that cheers the death of others, but if this guy dies, nobody is really going to shed a tear.
Hopefully the cult will fall apart, it's rare that a cult goes on after it's creator dies. But his wife pretty much took over.
I suppose this is the start of WBC falling apart. They'll either realize their mistakes and try to fix themselves up, or just join other radical groups.
A bunch of people should picket his funeral.
Probably did it so that the church wouldn't have to pay for the medical expenses.
That or they legitimately believe what they say and believe that their founder did something to piss off god...
A bunch of people should picket his funeral.

To all the people talking about wanting to protest his funeral/dance on his grave/whatever, consider this: The people the WBC hurt the most by doing these kinds of things were the family members of the deceased. A dead person doesn't know what's going on, after all. And while this guy was an amazingly large shithead, the youngest members of his church (like his grandkids) have basically been brainwashed and are as innocent as the children of dead soldiers. If you protest their grandfather's funeral you won't be hurting him, you'll be hurting them.
Good for him.
Part of me wonders if it was him running the whole show with an iron fist, and now his family is free of his tyranny. But maybe that's being optimistic.
Hopefully the cult will fall apart, it's rare that a cult goes on after it's creator dies. But his wife pretty much took over.
They're not a cult, they're basically just lawsuit trolls who sue people who assault them and make money from that.
Too bad he will be on his death bed surrounded by nothing but machines.
He was excommunicated and we don't know why. Maybe he finally saw how stupid he was acting and tried to get everyone to stop. We shouldn't really cheer on anyone's death especially without knowing stuff like this.
boo hoo hoo apologist bullshit
Then hopefully they'll realize the hurt they cause others by doing the same act? [editline]16th March 2014[/editline]
Part of me wonders if it was him running the whole show with an iron fist, and now his family is free of his tyranny. But maybe that's being optimistic.
They had a choice in it
Then hopefully they'll realize the hurt they cause others by doing the same act?
Yeah if you fight fire wi- no that that's over used, that's cliche and lame don't be a dick just because someone else is a dick, or more people will just learn to be dicks. Just ignore the WBC flat out, don't get involved, and most of all, don't do the same as them, if you do, at least do it in a way that isn't hateful.
Hopefully he gets a proper, un-picketed funeral. Because you know, its the decent thing to happen.
-post-
Except all of their protest at funerals hurt the families of the deceased. It's not like protesting his funeral is all that extreme anyway. It's just giving them a bit of their own medicine.
I hope they firebomb his casket. Now that's extreme
I hope they firebomb his casket. Now that's extreme
Yeah, but then you'd have evangelical nutcase dust all in the air. You wouldn't want that kind of pollution would you?
Yeah, but then you'd have evangelical nutcase dust all in the air. You wouldn't want that kind of pollution would you?
That's the closest he's getting to heaven fuck it.
I realize the whole "homophobes are often closet homosexuals" thing, while often true, is a horribly overused cliche. But part of me hopes Fred forgot to clear his browser history one day, and Margie found tons and tons of visits to TrannyBang.com. Edit: I'm guessing that's a real site.
Except all of their protest at funerals hurt the families of the deceased. It's not like protesting his funeral is all that extreme anyway. It's just giving them a bit of their own medicine.
Honestly though its somewhat of a double edged sword, but Zeke had exactly the right idea.
And while this guy was an amazingly large shithead, the youngest members of his church (like his grandkids) have basically been brainwashed and are as innocent as the children of dead soldiers. If you protest their grandfather's funeral you won't be hurting him, you'll be hurting them.
There is the chance that really, you're just confirming to the children that you're a shitty person (IN THEIR perspective) and they should keep protesting funerals at the same time, it may show them just how hated and wrong the WBC is to the children. But there is a much better method. this is purely about the future generation, after all. Honestly if not for the kids, damn right he should get his funeral protested. But what do the kids learn? How does that teach them the personal view of the "Enemy? people should go to the funeral and talk about their experiences with the man, and talk about how hateful and angry he was. By picketing at a funeral, you only look like you have no sense of tolerance like they do. All it shows is that you're just as radical as they are, you're just on the other side of the spectrum. This is coming from a guy who believes that if gays can't marry, why should any one else be allowed? The entire point of being pro-gay and stand alone, against the WBC, is about being tolerant of other people. How is it tolerant to protest like that? Protest in their territory and where they protest.
I hope they firebomb his casket. Now that's extreme
That's pretty fucked up I must say but knowing Fred, I can't actually rate your post dumb. But please think of what that teaches people.
To the people saying just ignore them.... I've been ignoring them for the longest time. Why haven't these assholes disbanded yet?
FYI: they did this because he's dying. if he's dying... the place he works for has to provide $$ for his funeral/health care. it was probably his idea.
To the people saying just ignore them.... I've been ignoring them for the longest time. Why haven't these assholes disbanded yet?
Ignoring them doesn't make them go away however, counter-protesting literally every single time they protest no matter where it is to the point of trying to overrun everything they do, will.
He was excommunicated and we don't know why. Maybe he finally saw how stupid he was acting and tried to get everyone to stop. We shouldn't really cheer on anyone's death especially without knowing stuff like this.
People tend to come to their senses on their death bed. I always had a feeling that old Phelps would come around once the Grim Reaper came knocking. Also: It's a lawsuit group. Since he's dying he has no reason to keep up the ruse.
That's the closest he's getting to heaven fuck it.
Being as bad as the people you're fighting doesn't end up making you the right one.
-snip-
Then hopefully they'll realize the hurt they cause others by doing the same act?
I don't think most people work like that. I imagine they'll get more upset and feel even more justified in their actions.
But please think of what that teaches people.
That dead people make terrible IEDs? [editline]17th March 2014[/editline] At least that's what I learned.
