Just assembled my first own rig, however on startup I do not get any motherboard beep nor do I get any screen activity. In other words, everything appears to be running but it doesn't seem to boot up. What did I miss connecting? How can I determine if hardware failure is the reason?
I popped in the driver CD for the motherboard in hopes something would happen, but nope.
Thankful for any help!
You obviously didn't hook up everything, otherwise you would get POST.
take a picture with a good or decent camera, and put it up here.
Here, tried to capture the motherboard from a few angles. Let me know if there is something specific you'd like to see/know.

My camera is far from awesome and it's not daylight, I'm afraid.

One peculiar thing I noticed during building was that the 8-pin ATX power connector on the motherboard had a 4x4 plug/jumper-thingy inserted into it, blocking off half the plug. I removed the plug without thinking much about it.
Did you try moving your RAM to the blue slots?

Hey, that did something atleast. I can now hear the motherboard beep (a single short beep, followed by another a few seconds later).

Appears to be working now, it searches for bootable device. Popped in my win7 DVD and it appears to be loading :)
Look up your motherboard's beep codes, that may shed some light on whats going on. Also, try each stick of RAM individually, a bad stick will often keep a board from posting.
This is fucking funny because the motherboard manual clearly stated that the DIMM's could be installed in any of the same-colored slots.
You probably just didn't push them in enough/dust/who knows.
Still, on some motherboard certain colored slots are a bit faster/better/+attribute than the other. I know that's the case on mine. Stuff was confusing until I changed to black slots.
Computers can really get confusing when shit happens for no apparent reason.
mostly likely the RAM wasnt push in all the way, I hate putting parts like RAM into the ports because you have to use some force and i always feel like im going to break something.
It also looks like you didnt use motherboard standoffs?
Or its just me.

It's not just you, I can't see all of the screws, either.

The little brass screws used to put some distance between the motherboard and the case? They're there alright, eight of them in total. Though I had expected the screws holding the motherboard on to the standoffs to be wider.

that is a bit odd...

Obviously, you missed the black philips head screws in several of the pictures. But you know, I guess that is an understandable observation for people who don't know what they're talking about.
Take your motherboard off its standoffs and see how long it runs.

Whats a bit odd? That he had standoffs? Or he had 8 of them?

Well you don't need to be a dick about it, this section of the site is for helping and learning.
Anyway, hopefully you don't have bad sticks, where did you order your parts from?
Actually made a PC building thread here just last week (scroll down and you'll find a pic of my final configuration). I ordered all parts from Komplett.se (Swedish online store).
Clearing up some questions from the old thread; The GTX 470 easily fits into the Cooler Master HAF 912 Mid-tower. Any card would seeing as you can (as someone correctly pointed out) remove 2/3 of the 3.5" HDD cages (if 2x drives is enough for you). Even without removing it I could have fitted it, actually.
Everything is running smoothly (turns out there was nothing wrong with the DIMM's) and the gaming performance is massive, only thing that irks me is that the Samsung SpinPoint F3 HDD is a bit noisy.
