Okay, for about 2 months now, my L4D/L4D2 and TF2 have been having these annoying stutters. I've tried reinstalling the games, verifying caches, defragging comp, defragging games, updating drivers, lowering graphics setting, but nothing has worked for me to fix this. Now, the reason I posted this in the Hardware and Software section? Because I was wondering if the temperature of the laptop would have something to do with this. I usually pull 47C - 50C idle, TF2 is around 60C, and L4D/L4D2 skyrockets up to 70C - 80C. Oddly enough, the games will run fine for the first 20 minutes, then the stutters start to happen. The games will stutter for a good 10 - 20 seconds before going back to normal, then they stutter AGAIN and the process repeats. So yeah, any help would be appreciated with this.
Since I'm too :downs: and have no idea how to find my system specs, I just used System Info on Steam in hopes that this is the info you need:

Try something else, that AV is notoriously shit.
microsoft security essentials
It's a 9800m so it's a laptop correct? Trying plugging in to the power supply, changing the power settings or it could be a defect in your chargers voltage. It happens to my Laptop every once in a while and it gives me a worse FPS drop than if I was just on battery power.

Sorry, I have no idea what an AV is or what it does. Could you sort of fill me in?

It's a laptop, correct. I usually never have the battery in, but it's worth a try hooking it up. The only reason I don't like running on battery power is because the screen's brightness is drastically reduced and it looks wierd to me. :v:
AV= Anti Virus, Use a different one.

Oh derp, sorry, but thanks for telling me. So now I'll have to invest in a new Anti Virus? Are there any other good ones you recommend aside from shit Norton and Macafee?

Malawarebytes. It's free.

well, the free version is anyway but there's a buyable version too if you're into that sort of thing :v:

Did a full scan with it and found nothing aside from something called Hijack.StartMenu something. After a little bit of research, I found out it's a Vista glitch and it's not really a threat at all.
Get new drivers I have 8.17.11.9621 and I don't even think they're current. As a start.

You mean update them? I already tried.
GPU Overheating?? Sounds like it..

Guess I'll have to buy an external fan then? :gonk:
Avira is a good free AV
With recommended settings except for high shaders so I can see the film grain and rain, I get 15 fps on l4d2.
Fuck you, are are lucky.
[editline]12:42AM[/editline]
'bout 50 fps on tf2 when using mat_queue_mode 2, r_threaded and cl_threaded, fps_max 70, cl_forcepreload, sv_forcepreload.
first off, your running an anti virus while playing games. No shit it's going to lag. Turn it off/disable it during gameplay. Also refer to this steam thread

Oh, I tried that already. No difference.
start using nod32. (anti virus)
Try a cooling solution, i remember my games on my 3 year old used to stutter a lot when i finished loading a level, so when i loaded a level, the first minute of gameplay was horrible stuttering, then after that it was fine.
I had this on my old laptop. I used a vacuum cleaner on the exhausts and intakes and it ran fine again! But that was before I found out that static did baaaad things to computers. So use a can of compressed air or something.

It's free, and it works. Better than Avira, in my opinion.
