Since most of my drawings are of girls, I decided to brush up on drawing guy's faces...

I spent the most attention on the top right one, he's my hero character for Selene's story (The one everyone here says contains elf rape) and I wanted to give him a look that made him stand out from other characters. For this I gave him a softer, almost feminine look.
I went this route for the character's appearance for several reasons:
-Because a lot of girls who are into this sort of art style seem to go wild for the mildly androgynous guy.
-He's supposed to be the heir to a saint. In the old days, angels were often depicted having the same kind of celestial androgyny about them to imply them as being above human concepts, such as gender.
-I hate giant, beefcake-looking characters, there's far too many of them and I find characters that look like that hard to relate to.
-It's the kind of look I'd want for myself if I could change my appearance.
looks good.
Apart from the obvious humour that you want to look androgynous, all of these are solid faces and the one at the top right which received most attention benefited from it. Though his/almost her hair seems a bit big, but it's up to you.
Make it look more like a manly man.
They are pretty good, but needs shading. OH and I think you misplaced the eye on the top right one.
You went to art school? Ugh.
I don't even know what to say... Half of me wants to gut you for wasting your time on this shitty style, the other half wants me to help you by linking you to how males look.
Protip: Get some fucking originality, I tend to try to at least help people while insulting them, but right now you're not even worth it. :froggonk:

Hi there. It's me again. :downs:
Anyways, first off, you don't have a "style". This is every run of the mill knock-off animu style. Real manga/anime artists actually have their anatomy down pat, and what they produce is the result of transmogrifications of reality. So if you really want to get good at drawing, learn to draw from life and from what real people look like. If you don't, well.. Ever heard of Rob Liefeld?
Also, the fact that you're learning to draw in this "style" just to impress girls is retarded.
You'll only get the girls that foam at the brain. But maybe you dig your girls dumb as bricks, I don't know. And on that note, they don't dig the mildly androgynous guy. Go watch some Yaoi or Shonen-Ai if you want to know what these fangirls dig. I hear a lot of talk about Hetalia+ from some of my female friends. They like gay things. Are you up to drawing gay things?
Also, if everyone looks like a fuckin' fairy, then how will we distinguish them? There's gotta be a dumb, beefcake character somewhere.

Meet beefcakes who you come to love.
Seriously, no one's expecting you to draw this:

I hate the way those characters look. They look like idiots. Why do all the male characters have to look so...wide?
I hate the way those characters look. They look like idiots. Why do all the male characters have to look so...wide?
Because that's what human males look like.
Because that's what normal males look like? They don't look like skinny women, or athletically weak computer regulars, those people would get murdered in an action scenario unless they have a gun.
Because that's what human males look like.
GORDON FREEMAN does not look that wide.

This is partially the reason why I like Valve's characters, they don't try to make them over-the top muscular and stuff, Dr. Freeman's just an ordinary guy under extraordinary circumstances. Not some wide-ass beefcake.
Gordon doesn't look like a damn pansy either
They look well drawn, but generic. I really dislike the way it looks.

There are three main body types: extomorph, endomorph, mesomorph. Most of the characters you draw are extomorphic. They have thin frames and lean muscles. The characters depicted in the post you quoted are mesomorphic. Bulkier frames with more toned muscles. The latter is generally considered more male and dominant, while the former is considered feminine and submissive. The strong jawline, broad shoulders and thick chest all help to enforce the dominate trait. As for your characters, the slender forms, leaner muscle structure, and softer facial features indicate a less imposing threat.
okay
[editline]yeah[/editline]
What I'm saying is, both character styles are legitimate, it's just one is drastically less imposing than the other. Also no one cares about endomorphs because they're fat and useless.

I only use "Mesomorphic" characters for canon-fodder minion-type characters.
Something about their faces, they just piss me off...
Incredibly generic faces, incredibly bad art style imo... The lines are just boring. Get yourself a better medium/pencil.
Good thing you're doing that.
If you want to truly practise, draw analogically in realistic style as well. You should get the logic better.
as the astounding amount of helpful criticism has pointed to, working on realistic structure both of body and individual parts such as just faces is key in working out a more defined art style, even with anime.
I've always found it to be the case in art, to learn the real-world rules. Knowing the rules inside and out helps you break them without getting in trouble for it.
also, I really have to commend you for constantly posting your stuff despite the horrendous reception it usually gets.
a good way to deviate away from what Nautsabes mentioned is to draw larger. When you're refining a sketch that's rather small, details get smoothed over and lost in thick lines. Larger images you can work in a lot of fine print to a character that helps define them when re-sized to where you want.

Gordan Freeman is a Master....
Also the drawing's right at the top were really good. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for comments and (actual) critiques, everyone.
Try drawing a guy with a beard, that might make it more manly without have to change body morphs.

Oh, hey, I remember posting that site here awhile back.
And I do have a character with a beard, I just didn't include him here.
You made the same face 4 times with different hair. Try to be a little more original..
Like Mortal K0mbat said, you've drawn the same goddamn face four times. Faces variate more between fucking twins for christsake, You need to fucking study character design. Seriously, you are headed down a road that leads into a fucking slaughterhouse, you need to learn this shit. What are you, twenty? And you don't know how to plot shadows, or draw a realistically proportioned face, or draw a realistic human figure, and you don't know the first thing about concept design. You haven't seriously worked with color at all, you can't paint digitally, you can't shade or use any tools other than pencils, seriously man, this is fucking scary shit.
What are you going to do when you walk into a job interview, distract your employer with episodes of Witchblade in the hopes that they don't notice that you don't have even the slightest fucking clue as to what you're doing?
Look man, I like you, you're not an asshole. You're relatively honest, even if you're a creepy motherfucker who I wouldn't let within a mile of my kids(if I had kids). Don't do this shit to yourself, it's painful to watch. It's like watching someone set up a guillotine around their dick.
And Gordon Freeman is a gaunt, spindly, ghostly scientist bloke. And you never even see his face in game. You can't reject character designs on the grounds that you wouldn't fuck them, people are fucking UGLY. It's ugliness that makes beauty look beautiful, the way you have it set up now your "world" looks like a fucking gay elf LOTR fanfiction. Of course all of this comes back to the fact that you don't know how to draw the human head anyway.
Seriously, you're killing me here.
EDIT:
See my avatar? That's H. R. Giger, Maybe you've heard of him. He's a creepy old fuck who draws giant mechanical penises fucking giant steel vaginas. He is no doubt an ugly motherfucker. But you know what? His face has emotion. It says something. So it doesn't matter that he's ugly, because he's got emotion. That's what matters.
It doesn't matter if you look like a gay elf who could fuck any woman or man alive on the earth, if the design lacks emotion then no one will give a fuck but squealing fangirls who look like beached whales.
