HP Pavilion D6000 won't start at all. Lights flash, fan spins, all stops, and repeat.

I received a laptop from a family friend. They knew, and made it clear to us that it does not work, but we're trying to see if we can get it running.
When I press the power button, the lights come on, I can hear the fan spin up, the lights go out, the fan stops, and it repeats until you pull the battery.
Any ideas?
Not much you can do with a laptop if it's not passing POST.
Try removing a stick of ram and restarting, if that doesn't work swap the sticks.
After that i'd try to get it replaced if it's still under warranty.

I doubt it's still under warranty, But If it can't be fixed I'm not gonna be too upset because It was free.
I'll try it when I find the charger for it. I forgot to pull the battery after the last attempt and the battery might be drained.
