I guess loading a character model in a test map is already considered a remake now.
^ You should check out some of the videos he's released. He's done a tremendous job with this.
Man, everything is getting an 'Unreal 4 fan remake'. Off the top of my head I've seen MGS1, KOTOR, and Super Mario Sunshine... now Tomb Raider. I wonder if any will ever actually get finished without being sued into oblivion. Probably not.
Shame that these days you cant make a remake without getting sued (and cant even mod games in some cases without private investigators coming to your house) Imitation is the best form of flattery or so they say.
^ You should check out some of the videos he's released. He's done a tremendous job with this.
I did before I originally posted. Unless he has some old private videos that I can't see, I stand by my statement. It's a few weeks old UE learning project by one guy, with a couple of test maps and Lara Croft running in it. There are probably a couple of Facepunchers here who did more than that while fooling around in gmod.

If the people messing around with Garry's Mod were making a heavily detailed scene build with realistic posing or doing some crazy complex contraption with Wiremod, then you'd probably be right about them doing more work than what this guy did.
Youd be a bit worried too if someone took your idea and sold it again or made it free without your permission, especially if you're a business owner
That doesn't really work when the studio either intentionally tried to sideline the game to push something else or they refuse to go back and make their own official remaster, no matter how much money people try and throw at them. Likewise, unofficial devs shouldn't be talking about it until after they've seeded it in enough places the suits won't be able to DMCA all the hosts.

There was also that guy who made a small medievil mock-up some time ago, although that was designed to be a hoax from the start. The people who do these don't necessarily try to get a full thing going, it's usually more to add something on their portfolio and get a reputation, or just for shits and giggles. Also that Tomb Raider one in particular is neat but it seems like most of it is just reused stuff from previous games. All the animations, sound effects and combat system in general are from TR Legend / Anniversary.

The recently released UE4 adventure kit, which is very similar to what nicobass is doing here, took hundreds of man-hours and is selling for 150 bucks. And on top of that, this guy has completely hand-made all of the animations, since you can't extract them from any of the newer TR games. There's a lot more going into those videos than you'd think, and I'm all for recognizing a good thing when I see it. That's just where I'm coming from, though.
If he really did remake all the animations then it's impressive but most of them are identical, and the new ones like running and pulling up a torch have a drastically different feel and look to them.
These fangames or projects don't usually get a C&D, it really depends on the dev/publisher.
just because they arent working on a remake/sequel doesnt mean its off the table.
Capcom and Megaman would like a word with you.

I've looked hard for ways to get the TRL/TRA anims. But, like many games with complex climbing mechanics, they use morpheme animations, which are apparently difficult to reverse engineer. But, its hard to tell the difference between his and legend's, which is great.
Youd be a bit worried too if someone took your idea and sold it again or made it free without your permission, especially if you're a business owner
If profits were made in any way I'd understand, but honestly it's kinda fucked up to get fan creations sacked just because you don't want people touching your IP. People make things like that as a tribute, and owners of the IP should appreciate that people are publicly displaying their love for a title. Those kind of things should be left alone as long as there's a visible disclaimer saying that the project is an unofficial creation and is unrelated to the owners of the IP, and that no profits or donations are made.
You can at least see that he's put some effort into it. Not that kind of shit where a different guy just loaded a Mario model into Unreal 4 and called it "How Mario on Unreal 4 would look like". He then proceeded to let him walk on ultra realistic levels and even some Resident Evil like catacombs. Ew.

Ew.
I'm pretty sure the guy who did the mario in UE4 thing did it to showcase the Mario 64 movement mechanics he made in UE4. IIRC it had sliding, slow turning, wall kicks, diving, it wasn't just "hey guys I ported a mario model in UE4". And while those things are just fun things made with free time they still require work to do, it's not a small thing to port a model into an engine, make movement mechanics and have animations which work with those mechanics (and that are played at the right times) so I wouldn't be surprised if the reason those were shown with assets that didn't fit was because making an area with original content would require too much work.

I know not everyone is intimately familiar with Unreal, but his videos clearly show a good chunk of tomb raider's gameplay functionality working in the unreal engine. We all play games, we should be able to tell the difference between this and that kotor thing from a couple weeks back, or the videos you mention. Its night and day. Lara's moveset is complex, its not like making an fps character move around. She jumps, climbs, sidles, hangs, swims, and shoots. 2/3 of everything you do in a tomb raider game are on display in his videos. You don't just blow that off, that's an accomplishment. EDIT: Just for reference, let me put the forum thread here.

The game's movement and interaction looks smooth as fuck, he should make a Tomb Raider inspired game and get someone to create a unique character + storyline and sell that shit,
I really hope we can get a test demo before they c&d it, legend and anniversary were the best games in the series imo. The new games are such a departure they might as well call them something else instead of TR.

Also Legend has aged like milk.
I wish open tomb didn't fall apart, would had been nice to work around the source code problem and play the original games not at 30 fps and with better shaders.
Reminds me of how the Tomb Raider Level editor from wayyyy back in the day is still being used by fans to make TR Fangames to this day. Imagine how awesome it would be if they could make a modern version of that Level Editor using Unreal, Fanmade Tomb Raider games would be so sweeeeet
The creator said in the comments of his latest video that he'd release a demo by autumn.

I was thinking of making a parody of Metal Gear Solid called "Walrus Gear Solid" but I dunno how that'd be received. I also need to finish the game I'm working on now.
I would love to play a modern version of a classic Tomb Raider game.

[editline]10th April 2016[/editline] I'd spend so much to support that project dude I'd suck cock for it
