Series of Four
-Join The Experiment!
Check it out at www.Seriesof4.com
This is thought of as a fun project that uses different skills like art, design, managing, sales, business etc. The idea is to get something going that is fun to run and also gives us experience in the business field and of course earn a bit of cash.
"Join The Experiment! The Series of Four is a business experiment run by a few high school students in San Marcos California. Our intentions are to start a company (on the side of school) to see what the business world is all about. We believe there is no better way to learn than from personal experience.
So that is how we started, our main goals are to get some first hand experience in business (the fun way), build up some funds for a greater education, provide customers with slick products and customer service that will exceed expectations. This should give us an opportunity to improve our skills in managing, selling, art, design, accounting, and whatever else comes our way. And ideally provide us with the knowledge we need to select career paths in fields we enjoy most. - The So4 Team"

Sorry Im no expert on that, but the whole project sounds cool, is it like a ''young enterprise'' thing? Thats what my school calls what I think is something simmilar to this, students setting up a buisness for a year or something simmilar.
Should make the F of the OF into a crown, that's what I first thought it was. Would look cool
[editline]24th March 2011[/editline]
I would show what I mean, but Im kinda busy.
@ Mr. Cake: No this is just a random project I started. Although for a business course I'm taking we're supposed to start a business as the final project so I was going to use what I already started hah.
@ Sounds kind of cool..
Anyone have recommendations for future products? I'm thinking shirts next then beanies or webbed belts.
Also the next four people to order I will throw in a free fridge magnet!

If you can make a nice beanie or scarf, I will consider it.
Pff I liked series of four before it became popular /hip
Also it's rather unoriginal , it's just sunglasses or strap with your name on it...
I think what you're doing here has the potential to be huge. I'd like to be a part of it. I like to know some more info about what your about and what I could do to get hired by you guys.
Great I will send you some more info. We have some big plans in progress.
Hope this goes somewhere

Not UPS, they charge like hell
I'm currently shipping through USPS, which is very cheap & fast but not the best for shipping outside the country.

Being over 13 is one requirement.
Here is some of what I sent Dgigliello: (Figured I might as well post it in here.)

-Building a fun creative work environment
Series of F O U R
F reedom
O pportunity
U nique
R espect
We also do things in fours (Series of fours)
We call ourselves the So4 Team.
The main thing I need now is salesmen. I worked out a way for salesmen to work entirely online or in person.
What a salesmen would do:
[So you would basically print out some flyers and promote my products both in person and online. For each product sold you would get a commission (40%-50%) royalties. Orders are processed through PayPal, the way I would decipher which sales came from you would be either through a unique coupon code with a discount you give customers or if you have your own site I can make you a button you can embed with a unique item ID that will be processed through my PayPal. (If you're not familiar with PayPal I can try and explain it better)
It is up to you to build sales techniques but I can give you some tips. I will give you an application to fill out then whether or not you're approved I will give you a list of guidelines/requirements to follow. After about a week from the day you start we can discuss how things are going or ideas you have. Also at the end of each month I will send your profits either through PayPal or with a check. (Or maybe a direct transfer depends on your bank account)]
I am currently working on incentives for employees of the month etc. So I will let you know as soon as I get something concrete in order. This is a brand new business so I'm all ears for new ideas.
For all those artists out there..
If you are more interested in creating artwork rather than driving sales we do have some projects for those who make it in. Although for now we can not pay substantially.
The position Website Developer has already been taken but I could still use some videographers, animators and artists.
I'm looking for content: (Make any kind of video or creative piece that features Series of Four. If it's good enough it will be displayed on our website.) Ex. ideas: Stop motion, time lapses, So4 bio.
Product design:
If you design a T-shirt or other clothing product that I really like we can work out a contract and I will get it manufactured and you will get a percentage of however many products with your design are sold.
Same goes for stickers although this is more for fun rather than for pay.
Art Crew Application:
http://bit.ly/ArtApp
Please send in a portfolio or links to your work along with your application.
If you're approved I will send you more information about what I need.

I would try asking UPS first and then use FedEx as a last resort.
I would really love to help you guys, but I am so busy with school right now. Im also not quite sure if my graphic design skills are up to par to do some artwork in the spare time I do have. So instead, I wish you guys luck.
(Also, do I need to be "hired" to do some experiments with graphic design? Or would it be cool with you guys if I tossed something together [If I ever have the time] and showed it to you? I have no plans as is, but it never hurts to ask)
Some light criticism (it is the art forum after all), your logo's and type should really be consistant across all platforms. The website name typography really clashes with the style of your (limited) products and the style you appear to want to establish in your media/pictures/etc.
Basically, either use the cursive elegant style on your logo on everything or use the more bolder simplistic style for everything.
Looks great, all the best to you guys

Also this
Wow, this looks really good... I mean, with some more artists and a few salesmen, it could really get out there. I really want to help, but I feel as though I'm a bit underaged. I'll shoot you a PM, see if I can help.
@ DOC
The artist position is pretty flexible. If you come up with a design in your spare time that is up to par we will definitely consider working out a contract and having it manufactured. This is based on commission so you can come up with as many or as few designs as you want and still get paid.
@ KorJax
Thanks for the tip, I was thinking the same thing. The question is do I change the site or future products..?
@ Kougar
Thanks for the application, I need to do a bit of research on having underaged workers. If it does work out it will be required for you to have a PayPal / Bank Account.
Update: Things are going great as we're developing concrete job positions. Also our first T-Shirt designs are in stock. (They are for a BMX company called "OldGuysWhoRide".com) So you can expect to see them up on the site by the end of the week.
If anyone has ideas for what you would like to see in our company let me know, this is a brand new business so I'm all ears for new ideas.
If you want I could do some sales or maybe look for artists and the such for you? I'm sure that I won't earn anything from the artists, but hell, if it helps, it helps.
Thanks for the offer! We can use all the help we can get.
Contact me at seriesof4@gmail.com and I will send you more info.
If you could fill out a job application that would be great just so I can get some of your basic information. http://bit.ly/Jobapp

I reccomend changing the site to reflect the look of your products. The look of your logo on your products feels more refined and "designed" while the look of the website looks like you just took a cursive font and rolled with it. The products you have so far as well don't speak to an "elegant" or classical nature that your website establishes, so the more "designed" logo on your actual products fits the "brand" better as well as looking much cleaner.
I'm going to make a little intro flash anim thingy. I have a cool idea.
So what makes your imitation wayfarers unique? I think your logo needs work, the name sounds catchy enough but the logo doesn't have enough character to make it recognizable like Fox, Roxxy, DC, The North Face, they all have logos that are very recognizable at a glance and that's key when your trying to get into a market that is already at 100% saturation. You need an image more than anything because without a good logo, you wont stand out compared to all the other companies selling the same wanna-be wayfarers, tshirts and accessories.
On second look, your logo is good but your consistency is way off, you keep using that 4 little dash logo in different orientations with different surrounds and it just throws off the flow.
I don't think it's bad, if anything the different usages of the same logo adds interest. It gets boring to see the same application over and over and in my eyes is much weaker than using it more dynamically.
Though on that note applications of the logo should be consistent between stuff such as the products and the website. I.E. if your products primarily have the logo at a 23 degree angle, then your website logo should reflect that too. Being creative in the usage of the logo within graphics or when used as a background element is a good thing in my eyes however.
Also flash intro's are dumb, no one actually watches them. Time would be better spent on a soundless animated banner that isn't too distracting, or an intro-to-the-products animation on the front page along with everything else.
@ KorJax Thanks for the tips. I feel it's a little late for changes like that but I'll change things around here and there and keep that in mind for the future. (I especially agree with keeping the tilt the same, if the rotation is different that would definitely draw attention of inconsistency.)
@ Criox Go for it! If you come up with something good send it over, we might use it. Something we can incorporate on our page without distracting from the site would be great.
@ Ajacks Thanks for the tip. The logo is meant to be universal and incorporated into different styles and art pieces. (it will become more established as we develop more designs.)
Also the current product designs are just the start, as we publish more designs the idea behind the logo will become more recognized.
Update: Lanyards now have an attachment so they can hold phones!
