For anybody that builds their own kernels, I just found Zen kernel.
There is some discussion about the kernel on Gentoo Forums:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-797306.html
Some of the cool features of Zen are:
BFS (Brainfuck CPU Scheduler)
BFQ (New IO scheduler)
drm-next (3d and kms for radeon hd cards)
Reiserfs4
Tuxonice hibernation support
Distro specific bootup logos instead of just plain old Tux. (btw. the Tits logo is disappointing; anime)
Linus's kernel tree seems to be aimed more at servers, but this tree is more for desktop users.
From the about page:

The Zen Kernel is a the result of a collaborative effort of kernel hackers to provide the best Linux kernel possible for every day systems. We include code that is not included in the mainline kernel in an attempt to create an all-around better kernel for desktops (although it can be compiled otherwise). This is done by including new features, supporting latest hardware, and including various code and optimizations to better suit desktops. Zen is a 100% community oriented project so, as a result, everybody can contribute to the project.
Zen is almost always more up to date than your distribution's default kernel. Zen is split up into two trees, these are stable (zen-stable.git) and unstable (zen.git). The stable tree follows Linux releases while the unstable tree follows the Linux git tree (linux-2.6.git).

I haven't extensively tested it yet because I have an outstanding bug on drm-next, and I reverted the offending commit. If I don't revert it, I only get one working screen, and I don't really want to maintain a patch in zen's git tree. When my bug gets fixed I'll switch to Zen full time.
The developers have just posted a tutorial to use a custom kernel seed. These seeds are made by another Gentoo Forums member.

Side note: I've seen this kernel a while back, but only saw the name. I assumed that it was a kernel for the Xen hypervisor. I care so little for Xen that I thought it was spelled Zen.
I might try this out later, but I don't think I'm up for compiling a kernel right now. It's too much a pain in the ass to just do whenever you feel like.

I do it all the time. :smug:
But you're right. Trying to remember what config options need to be set gets annoying.

Use the current kernel config from /proc/config.gz?
I've always wanted to build a rice based kernel.

Isn't BFS in this or the next vanilla kernel version anyway?
Isn't BFS in this or the next vanilla kernel version anyway?
No. It's unlikely that Linus will merge BFS anytime soon.
The main reason being is that it doesn't support 4096 CPUs like the current CFS does. BFS starts to fall apart after 16 CPUs. And Linus and the other devs don't seem interested in supporting two schedulers.
Ricer kernel. :v: Heh. That's so Gentoo. That's a great metaphor for the whole gentoo ideologue. What with the compiling everything with -fso-fast -O9 flags.
Agreed, Gentoo is a ricer piece of shit.
Arch too. Use it to make people think you really know what you're doing.
I thought someone got custom firmware or something on a Zen :saddowns:

I use both of those you insensitive clod.

fun fact: I was intentionally targeting pretty much the entire Linux forum.
