Meet your kitchen of the future. Electrolux Design Lab has announced the finalists in their annual design competition. Undergrad and graduate industrial design students were challenged to envision new home appliance ideas for the year 2100 that create new ways to prepare and store food, wash clothes, or do dishes. Of 900 entries, these eight were selected as the most inventive, eye-catching, and forward-thinking.
The finalists have conjured ideas that make food appear from thin air, grow herbs on Mars, clean clothes you’re wearing, photocopy meals, and grow a steak. Check out the gallery to see them all.
Last year’s winner, Austrian designer Stefan Buchberger, took the prize for a compartment-style fridge. The Flatshare has individual, stackable modules so that people living with roommates can keep their food separated and avoid pesky things like putting initials on milk cartons or yelling at someone who just ate your last cupcake.
The winner will be announced in London on September 24 and will receive 5,000 Euro and an internship.
Who's thinking about the Portal AI spheres?
Is the first one a portal sphere with a glass condom on top?
It's a greenhouse
What the fuck, a fridge that teleports your food? :raise:
Yeah good luck with that.
So these are just drawn ideas of stuff that is nowhere near feasible?
What's the sodding point, design something that works thanks.

Some of the seem plausible, but then others are just way too out there.

At least the dish wash thing and the cloth iron thing seemed plausible. In fact that cloth iron already exists.
I loved that third machine. The 3D food modeler "Moléculaire". :buddy:
This is all pretty cool, but the only one I really like is the dishwasher(easily practical) and the 1-step shirt steamer.
I really can't place that guy's accent. He sounds half french, half australian and half british (yes I know I used too many halves).
Awesome i have to buy some of those.
what the fuck, is that second pic a tray full of Haros?

I like the idea of a food printer.
You would design food on your pc and wham there it is.
I would make people on the internet design my food
The "Portal mars walker" actually seems quite intresting, it can catch the gases and fluids the plants need and release the oxygen (Terraforming?) would take ages but w/e :v:.

Make them self replicating and wham instant terraforming
The Grass clothes cleaner sounds very retarded, but who wouldn't mind waking up to a clean suit?

The guy is definitly swedish, typical swedish accent and name.

Just don't come to facepunch for that service.
You'd have cock sandwiches shooting out of your food printer.

It's like concept cars, for drawing inspiration for future models from them. They're not supposed to be working, they're just designs. I liked the dishwasher concept, it looked practical.

That is the whole point of the challenge..
If people don't try new and unrealistic things we will not get anywhere.
This is the type of mentality that stunts the production or new ideas and products.

Well shit if it doesn't have to be possible then fuck it, I have the best idea.
The iCopy: My idea on how to end world hunger, poverty, low resources, etc.
It scans whatever you want and replicates it completely, making buying gas a thing of the past. Also, it runs on Love and Happiness, so it doesn't cost anything to run! And best of all, the material it's made of is 100% bio-degradable! So it's not harmful to the environment!
Here is my concept drawing:

Give me an award.
I would love to thank the following person for this idea: MR-X, for telling me that ANYTHING is possible.
