• Looking to build a new setup

It's been a while since I last upgraded, and really have no idea of what to look for in a nice ddr3 motherboard or what cpus are decent for the price. I don't know what the budget is, but I would prefer to keep it on the cheaper side if possible. This would be mainly for gaming. I'm in need of a Motherboard (ddr3 preferred), CPU (AMD or Intel), and a GPU (I've mainly been with Nvidia, but am not opposed to going AMD. I honestly don't know what cards on the market are good anymore) Any help would be appreciated.

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz LGA 775 GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard ASUS Nvidia Geforce 550 Ti 1gb 192-bit GDDR5 2x 1TB HDD OCZ Gold Edition 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) RAIDMAX AURORA 2 RX-600F 600W ATX12V V2.2 PSU I'm keeping the harddrives, and using the old parts to make my wife her own desktop. I will look into ram after I get the mobo/cpu squared away, and will buy myself probably a 650watt psu.
You're going to beed new RAM/CPU/mobo/GPU, and a GOOD power supply. you can't get RAM later

The lowest priced i5 you can get one newegg already surpasses that at $180. AMD wouldn't be worth the purchase because the motherboard's price even on the low end leaves you with almost nothing to spend meaning it may not even surpass your current processor.

I'm not just going to try to run a computer without ram, I just mean, that it isn't one of the first things I am going to buy. The motherboard comes before the ram, as I need to know what ram is supported by the motherboard. I don't plan on buying all the parts at once, I am looking to buy a few parts here and there until I have what I need, and then I am going to put it together. I just honestly know what is worth buying and what isn't. This is not the first computer I have ever built, I've done plenty of them before, I just haven't been keeping up with the tech world so now I am trying to play catch up.
I'd grab this ASAP http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8037045&CatId=8740 $200 for the 4670k is insanely cheap and most DDR3 will work no matter what. Usually 1600. This for the mobo http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8041583&CatId=13

Also make sure the motherboard will support it, but most quality motherboards will support most RAM timings (even the rarer high-end timings). As you can see that motherboard supports up to 3000 Mhz. You are not likely to find RAM that goes this high, and it won't be worth the money if you do.

Anything comparable to these or around the quality? I'd like to have a few options to consider. Edit: I keep seeing these AMD A series CPUs, how are they? This one is 4.2ghz quad core with a 4mb cache. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8114539&Sku=A79-6700
the 4670k will destroy any AMD processor especially at a $200 pricepoint you'd be dumb not to get it

(just like the 3570K and 2500K before them.) and the MSI z87 g45 is the sweetspot gaming motherboard atm. Specs, comparison and review can be seen here: http://us.hardware.info/reviews/4444/33-haswell-motherboard-group-test-26x-z87-4x-h87-and-3x-b85 I just went up from an E8500 to an i5-4670K and can tell you, that its worth the money. AMD sadly isnt really in the race for high end CPU's at the moment.
Thanks for the heads up. I'm so far behind on the newer cpu that I hadn't heard about AMDs new A series, or which Intel's were performing best.
