I'm sure Blizzard wanted to think the same thing about World of Warcraft. But unfortunately, all multiplayer-only games are doomed to eventually become a fond memory at best.
As much as I dislike LoL, a LoL 2 would be pretty killer. I didn't get a chance to try out all of the heroes, but I did end up liking Nami a lot.
People get tired eventually, even with updates. I give it at most 15 years before it dies out.

If they are somehow able to continue supporting the game for many many years, then more power to them, but I really doubt it'll last as long as Riot wants it to even disregarding the extreme optimisim
doesn't date??? it already looks p. shit in comparison to more modern mobas
LoL 2 would never work. Maybe a spinoff or a different kind of moba, but LoL 2 never. It's too big content wise and too strict mechanics wise for a sequel and all the possible gameplay changes can be done within current LoL
doesn't date??? it already looks p. shit in comparison to more modern mobas
They're doing a big visual rework soon to bring it up to dota standards at least.
They're doing a big visual rework soon to bring it up to dota standards at least.
It's going to have to be a bloody massive visual rework.
It's going to have to be a bloody massive visual rework.
No not really. People don't play mobas for graphics anyways.
No not really. People don't play mobas for graphics anyways.
you sure about that? plenty of lol players complain they can't see shit watching hon or dota because of the non-cartoony graphics.
Plebians, I say. The whole 27 million of 'em.
No not really. People don't play mobas for graphics anyways.
So? It's not like Riot can't afford to tart up the graphics, just because they don't play them for good graphics doesn't give them a free pass.
I can't for the life of me imagine a sequel to a moba Dota 2 is an exception because DotA Allstars were made as a mod on a very restricted platform
They're doing a big visual rework soon to bring it up to dota standards at least.
League's visual standards and Dota 2's visual standards don't even cross over on a venn diagram.
I can't for the life of me imagine a sequel to a moba Dota 2 is an exception because DotA Allstars were made as a mod on a very restricted platform
Dota 2 isn't a sequel, its a HD remake.
Dota 2 isn't a sequel, its a HD remake.
Complete with a ton of shit that was in the game due to engine limitations and not necessarily developer vision.
Complete with a ton of shit that was in the game due to engine limitations and not necessarily developer vision.
Except that they kept a lot of things in line with Warcraft 3's limitations, such as a needlessy giant ass HUD.

There's plenty of stuff that was in the original DotA just because it literally couldn't be fixed or removed. Most of it is quality of life stuff, but there's some gameplay impacting stuff that could've easily been dealt with as well.
