Malcolm Turnbull and Ministry sworn into (Australian federal) government
One of the largest frontbenches in Australian history is being sworn in as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and his reshuffled ministry meet with the Governor-General, Sir Peter Cosgrove in Canberra.
The Prime Minister's frontbench includes 23 Cabinet ministers, including Matt Canavan, who adds Resources to his Northern Australia portfolio.
The LNP senator has one of the extra positions picked up by the Nationals, a boost which reflects the larger proportion of their members in the Coalition partyroom post-election.
Senator Canavan told the ABC the changes were a win for regional Australia.
The Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries are being sworn in literally right now on ABC News 24.
[editline]19th July 2016[/editline]
Total seat counts in the parliament include:
House of Representatives (150 MPs, 76 for a majority) - IRV
- Liberals and Nationals: 76
- Labor: 69
- Greens: 1
- NXT: 1
- Independents: 3
Senate (76 Senators, majority not necessary) - STV
- Liberals and Nationals: Up to 29
- Labor: Up to 24
- Greens: Up to 6
- NXT: Up to 3
- One Nation: Up to 1
- Derryn Hinch: Up to 1
- Jacqui Lambie: Up to 1
Vote counting is still happening, especially in the Senate. In the House, one of the seats was so close that the top-two preferred candidates were separated by literally eight votes http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/federal-election-2016/federal-election-2016-results-eight-votes-separate-herbert-candidates-20160718-gq8b81.html
talk about how much power LNP has in the senate god damn, if Turnbull thought the senate changes were going to eliminate minor/micro parties they were certainly wrong
Seems like Labor + Greens + NXT + potentially Hinch could just shoot down anything they felt like
So the Government is a Minority Government?

They're a majority (you need a majority in the house of reps (or backing by minor parties if you cant get over the line)) BUT they're on thin ice.
If 1-2 MP's resigned and a by-election was called and LNP lost, they would be in serious trouble. If 1-2 MP's pulled out and became independents/apart of another party, LNP would be fucked
Katter is the only independent MP so far willing to be apart of the team as long as there is no "union bashing" but he would more than likely pull out if something shit happens
Labor are absolutely right, if anything goes wrong, we're back at the polls and honesty this election was a win for the ALP because all they need to do now is set the fire

Vote counting for the Senate still isn't finished (like 80% done). The figures mentioned above (taken from the ABC) only add up to 65 Senators, so there are still 11 seats that haven't been assigned. It is possible that minor parties could win more seats, but it is more than likely that they go to the major parties and the Liberals in particular, who polled stronger than Labor in the Senate.
Regardless, as soon as we get back to normal elections, major parties will once again have an advantage.
Dont really see how Labor did actually good vote wise, They had there second-lowest primary vote in 70 years, and only really got the amount of seats they did due to doing shit that some politicians in america do with redrawing seats.
and if anyone thinks NXT would side with labor your autism levels must be over 9000, Including greens are unlikely to even think about helping labor, the scare campaign/attack campaign against everyone the labor did is unprecedented in Australian politics and thats why NXT has come out and said they have no respect for bill shorten after the attack campaign they launched against NXT
