• USB ports dtivers are fucked up

Pretty much just what the title says. Since i re-installed the OS, when I plug something into these little funny holes, I need to re-install them. It only takes a few seconds, but it is annoying. Also, it can no longer recognize some flash drives. Any tips about how to fix it, possibly without reinstalling the OS? [editline]01:55PM[/editline] Fuck! I wrote "dtivers"! Gah, can somebody change that to "drivers"?
"Since i re-installed the OS" The OS? Which one? To edit the thread title double click next to it in the subforum view. Try sticking something into one of those "funny holes" (also called USB ports) and wait for it to install, then unplug it and stick it into the same port again. Does it install again?
The OS is ye olde Windows XP, the latest reliable thing Microsoft has made. Also, I tried with a USB mouse, it installed it the first time, and it works without any reinstall the 2nd time. I'd like to try the same thing with a flash drive, but it doesn't even want to recognize it.
Do you have SP3?
Yes I do...

Have you tried using different USB ports?
Go into device manager, uninstall all of the drivers relating to USB controllers, reboot the computer and let windows re detect the controllers.
That's normal.
No it's not. It's the first time it does it.
That isn't. Thanks bud!
It's the compatibility that makes XP so awesome. You miss out on some games, but that's not a big deal. Until Vista takes over everything and is required to do... well, anything (see DVD), then I'll make the switch.
I'm not missing any games... Old games such as Fallout 1 work just fine.
All right, I tried mr.TBD's solution, but some things are still bugged. A goddammit flash drive is not recognized. Works fine on other computers, and other drives work fine on this machine. Also, some hardware I already installed wants to be installed again every time it gets plugged in. Need some help here!
