I bought my computer nearly 2 years ago and haven't upgraded it since except putting in another harddrive. I've been forced to play newer games on lower settings but money is like always for me an issue and getting a new computer or a full uppgrade is out of the question. Here are my current specs: (maybe the linking is a little too much but whatever)

Opinions on what to upgrade first or other suggestions is what I'm looking for.
what res are you playing at and what games?
1440x900 and the games are the Bad Company 2 beta and the STALKER games. I also forgot to state my budget but it is somewhere between $200 and $400.
Maybe another 2Gbs of RAM and a 5850...
Another 2GB RAM and a 5850.
BC2 is CPU heavy, particularly in multiplayer, so either upgrade the CPU or do some serious overclocking on it if you want to pair it with a 5850.
It's only that heavy on the cpu though cuz it's a port from the ps3. Final product should be a bit faster. Just sayin...
We'll see, but overclocking won't cost anything like a new CPU, so he should do it anyway. A Coolermaster 212 Plus ought to do it.

I would suggest upgrading your processor to a Quad Core.
Then maybe adding a gig or two of ram.
You could get a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300 Yorkfield and overclock it to 3.0-3.2ghz.
My system specs are a Quad core OC'ed to 3.0Ghz, 4gb of ram, 8800GT 512mb and almost everything on high settings at 1680x1050 res.

stop right there

what's wrong with the Q8xxx quad-cores?
also, not the hijack the thread to anything but which of these are better?
the E8400 http://www.frys.com/product/5536450?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
or
the Q9300 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0328258
I plan on playing BFBC2 as well but I don't think my Pentium Dual Core E6300 isn't really up to the task.

Nothing wrong with them at all, they're solid and have very good reviews on newegg.

Just from experience with the cpu, I would recommend the Q9300. On stock speeds you run any game on the market very easily. Overclocking it would make it run even more like a beast.

thanks.
Don't upgrade from a good Yorkfield to a slightly better Yorkfield CPU, just overclock the one you have.

talking to me or the OP?
The OP. But your CPU isn't terrible, either. You could certainly try overclocking. I would look at a Q9550 as a minimum upgrade.

ok, my roommate's friend is good with that stuff. I would probably blow up my pc if I do it. plus I need to save money anyways.
