I have an old machine lying around - Windows XP, Pentium 3 1.2GHz (I think), 128MiB RAM, that I want to use for a webserver. I have downloaded XAMPP but when I double-click on the setup icon it doesn't open. The working cursor flashes for maybe half a second but nothing comes up.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Corrupt install maybe? That's basically all I can think of because it doesn't get far enough to do anything. The RAM is definitely super low though, that's barely enough to run XP.
I tried to get more ram, but as they don't make it any more it's more expensive than modern ram.
I'll try to redownload xampp now...
What kind of RAM is it? DDR or that old single channel stuff. (shit, I just forgot the name of it)

:psyboom:
Holy crap, I just found DDR2 that's single channel.
Some really old DDR shit.
SDRAM! I remembered!
With such little ram, you should use just use debian server. It's really not hard to set up a webserver is Linux, and it'll run much faster than on Windows. And yes, it will run with 128mb ram easily
Look around on ebay for DDR memory. Its not uncommon for people to sell old systems piece by piece.
A linux setup would be your free solution though. (You might try setting a larger page file under xp as well if you cant find memory to buy.)
