(CNN) -- Iraq's government ordered 10 television networks shut down Sunday, accusing them of stoking sectarian violence with "unprofessional" and "unethical" coverage of recent clashes in the country's north.
Sunday's order from the Communications and Media Commission includes the Qatar-based satellite network Al Jazeera and eight outlets aimed at the country's Sunni Arab minority. Ahmed Saeed, a reporter for Baghdad Satellite TV, said the decree effectively halts his network's reporting.
"We cannot cover anything now," Saeed said. "Iraqi security forces will immediately arrest us."
Thank you, George Bush, for sacrificing over a hundred thousand lives to create a modern, stable democracy in the Middle East!
the north... which is where the kurds are... welp, so much for change after saddam.
Easiest (read: dirtiest) way to end sectarian violence? Crush the minority
which probably gonna end badly because the kurds have been arming themselves due to the syrian civial war, it could spill over to iraq... well shit.
Honestly, it almost seems like they're asking to get crammed into another dictatorship.
We're free from a violent dictator that oppresses, murders and silences us, with no freedom of speech or religion!
Let's vote for a violent President that oppresses, murders and silences someone else, with no freedom of speech or religion! Hooray!

I don't know about you, but I don't exactly trust their voting system.

I would bet money that almost every election is rigged by one if not both parties
Iraq's central government needs a stronger military and police force.

The Presidency is largely ceremonial in Iraq (and is not directly elected), it's the prime minister who runs the government

I just went for the most likely title, considering I'd doubted they'd choose to use a term created by and symbolic of the United Kingdom's government.
If Iraq attacks Kurds, Iran and Turkey will help them too since they all hate Kurds

But Iraq, Turkey and Iran don't like one another, either.
Fuck it, just pull everyone out of the Middle East and let them kill themselves. It's obvious they can't be helped.
God bless Iraq for shutting these dirty liars up.

Then they would grow rich by selling all that oil that they have.

yeah imagine that, people prospering from the resources of their own territory.

You are a wonderful humanitarian.
Not sure why everyone is talking about Kurds either, it's Iraqi Sunnis who say the government is being a bastard, not really the Kurds. Iraqi Kurdistan is actually one of the chillest places in Iraq these days, it has its own government and hasn't really seen the levels of violence that have plagued the rest of the country.
Iraq ordering a Qatar based station to shut down. Yeah like that's even gonna happen, they are gonna still report events from Iraq, a license revoke or sanction rarely has stopped a media outlet before and it likely wont stop them now.

They're telling them to stop reporting and airing in Iraq, not from it or not from other places.

Still don't think it will stop them though...

If they don't then they will piss off the government and they have offices in Iraq.
